asked of him: Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there, 1 Sam. i. 20-28. And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid. And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life, 2 Kings iv. 16, 17.

And it came to pass, that on the eight day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called. And he asked for a writing-table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God,

Ἔσται γὰρ μέγας ἐνώπιον τοῦ Κυρίου καὶ οἶνον καὶ σίκερα οὐ μὴ πίῃ· καὶ Πνεύ

ματος ἁγίου πλησθήσεται ἔτι ἐκ κοιλίας

μητρὸς αὐτοῦ.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος, εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Εγώ εἰμι Γαβριὴλ ὁ παρεστηκὼς ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ· καὶ ἀπεστάλην λαλῆσαι πρός σε, καὶ εὐαγγελίσασθαί σοι ταῦτα.

at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give thee skill and understanding. At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly

VER. 20.

Καὶ ἰδοὺ, ἔσῃ σιωπῶν, καὶ μὴ δυνάμενος λαλῆσαι, ἄχρὶ ἧς ἡμέρας γένηται ταῦτα· ἀνθ ̓ ὧν οὐκ ἐπίστευσας τοῖς λόγοις μου, οἵτινες πληρωθήσονται εἰς τὸν καιρὸν αὐτῶν.

And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

Καὶ εἰσελθὼν ὁ ἄγγελος πρὸς αὐτὴν, εἶπε· Χαῖρε, κεχαριτωμένη· ὁ Κύριος μετὰ σοῦ· εὐλογημένη σὺ ἐν γυναιξίν.

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Ἡ δὲ ἰδοῦσα διεταράχθη ἐπὶ τῷ λόγῳ αὐτοῦ· καὶ διελογίζετο ποταπὸς εἴη ὁ

And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

VER. 30.

a For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb, ver.15. John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire, iii. 16. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire, Matt. iii. 11. The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it for she came from the utter

most parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here, xii. 42. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth, xxviii. 18. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father, Phil. ii. 9, 11.

Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

And the LORD shall reign over them in Mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever, Mic. iv. 7. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever, Heb. i. 8. And the seventh angel sounded: and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever, Rev. xi. 15.

VER. 34.

Εἶπε δὲ Μαριὰμ πρὸς τὸν ἄγγελον· Πῶς ἔσται τοῦτο, ἐπεὶ ἄνδρα οὐ γινώσκω ;

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

VER. 35.

Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ ἄγγελος, εἶπεν αὐτῇ· Πνεῦμα Πνεῦμα ἅγιον ἐπελεύσεται ἐπί σε, καὶ δύναμις ὑψίστου ἐπισκιάσει σου διὸ καὶ τὸ γεννώμενον ἅγιον κληθήσεται υἱὸς Θεοῦ.

And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called The Son of God.
