̓Αποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἀρχισυνάγωγος, ἀγανακτῶν ὅτι τῷ σαββάτῳ ἐθεράπευσεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς, ἔλεγε τῷ ὄχλῳ· “Εξ ἡμέραι εἰσὶν ἐν αἷς δεῖ ἐργάζεσθαι· ἐν ταύταις οὖν ἐρχόμενοι θεραπεύεσθε, καὶ μὴ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ σαββάτου.

And the ruler of the synagogue a answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work : in them | therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

̓Απεκρίθη οὖν αὐτῷ ὁ Κύριος, καὶ εἶπεν· Υποκριτὰ, ἕκαστος ὑμῶν τῷ σαββάτῳ οὐ λύει τὸν βοῦν αὑτοῦ, ἡ τὸν ὄνον ἀπὸ τῆς φάτνης, καὶ ἀπαγαγὼν ποτίζει;

The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, b doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering ?

And when he had said these things, 2 all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

VER. 18.

Ελεγε δέ· Τίνι ὁμοία ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ ; καὶ τίνι ὁμοιώσω αὐτήν;

a Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

VER. 19.

Ὁμοία ἐστὶ κόκκῳ σινάπεως, ὃν λαβὼν ἄνθρωπος ἔβαλεν εἰς κῆπον ἑαυτοῦ· καὶ ἤνξησε, καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς δένδρον μέγα, καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατεσκήνωσεν ἐν τοῖς κλάδοις αὐτοῦ.

a It is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Πορευθέντες εἴπατε τῇ ἀλώπεκι ταύτῃ· Ἰδοὺ, ἐκβάλλω δαιμόνια, καὶ ἰάσεις ἐπιτελῶ σήμερον καὶ αὔριον, καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ τελειοῦμαι.

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that a for, Behold, b I cast out devils, and I do cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day 1 shall be perfected.

VER. 33.

Πλὴν δεῖ με σήμερον καὶ αὔριον καὶ τῇ ἐχομένη πορεύεσθαι· ὅτι οὐκ ἐνδέχεται προς φήτην ἀπολέσθαι ἔξω Ιερουσαλήμ.

Nevertheless a I must walk to-day and to-morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

CHAP. XIV.-VER. 1.

Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

̓Αλλ ̓ ὅταν ποιῇς δοχὴν, κάλει πτωχοὺς, ἀναπήρους, χωλούς, τυφλούς.

VER. 14.

Καὶ μακάριος ἔσῃ· ὅτι οὐκ ἔχουσιν ἀνταποδοῦναί σοι· ἀνταποδοθήσεται γάρ σοι ἐν

τῇ ἀναστάσει τῶν δικαίων.

a And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

A. D. 33. be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies. He hath dispersed: he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever: his horn shall be exalted with honour, cxii. 5-9. He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lokr; and that which he hath given will he pay him again, Prov. xix. 17. He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed ; for he giveth of his bread to the poor, xxii. 9. Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own fesh ? Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee: the glory of the LORD shall be thy rere-ward. Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer: thou shalt cry, and he shall If thou take away say, Here I am. from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity: and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon-day: and the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not, Isa. lviii. 6-11. And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward, Matt. x. 42.
