different priviledges which belong to them accordingly ; external ones to them who are only externally qualified, and both external and internal ones to them who are qualified for both.

Now this different state of the Church being fo apparent as it is in Scripture, as also that thofe who have but common grace and yet Baptized, are really and truly of the vifible Church: I fay the confideration of these things hath enclined me to touch upon feveral things which feem to render it very improbable at least, that the Apoftles fhould admit none into the Church by Baptifm, but fuch as they judged to believe fo effectnally, as to be thereby Regenerate before they would Baptize them.

To what is faid in my inquiries into thefe matters, I fball here add a little more for our better Understanding that cafe or queftion.

The question is whether it be probable that the Apostles admitted none into the Church by Baptifm, but upon Suppofition that they had a true juftifying faving faith before fuch admiffion And hereby faith in this question is not meant faith objectively, but fubjectively confidered. For it is agreed that a profeffion of a belief of the fame truth doctrinally confidered,is neceffary to vifible Church-membership by Baptifm in the adult, which if be hieved as it ought to be; will be fufficient unto Fuftification and

and fuch is the Belief That Jefus Chrift is the Son of God, John 20. 31. Acts 8. 37. But the question is whether a lefs degree of belief of faving doctrine be not fufficient to vifible Churchmembership, than is fufficient unto Fuftification and Salvation? and whether it is not probable that the Apostles did admit fome into the Church by Baptifm upon the appearance and probable evidence of fuch a Faith? And in order to the making a due judgement in this cafe, it is neceffary to know what this Faith is, and wherein it differs from juftifying and faving Faith. The one for distinction fake we call a Faith initial or inchoate, the other a Faith confummate or complete.
