PREFATORY

ENTECOSTAL HYMNS No. 3 is a winnowed collection of

PENT

upwards of 300 pieces by 150 writers and 100 composers. It contains 288 pages, and is larger by 64 pages than either of the books that preceded it, whose sales ran into the hundreds of thousands. The aim has been to provide a book that would be broad enough in its scope to accommodate the needs of all departments of Church and Sunday-School work, except those that are met by an authorized Hymnal. The latter book should always have the pre-eminence. The peculiar needs of the Sunday School, the Young People's Prayer Meeting, and the Mid-Week Devotional Service have been most carefully considered. The songs of an evangelistic character are a host. The classics, for which there are no substitutes in modern Hymnody, have not been overlooked. For every number there will be found an appropriate tune. Many choice songs appear for the first time in this collection.
