HYMN.

THERE is a happy land,
Far, far away,

Where saints in glory stand,
Bright, bright as day.
Oh, how they sweetly sing,
Worthy is our Saviour King;
Loud let his praises ring-
Praise, praise for aye.

Come to this happy land,

Come, come away;

Why will ye doubting stand

Why still delay ?

Oh, we shall happy be,

When from sin and sorrow free;

Lord, we shall live with thee;
Blest, blest for aye.

Bright in that happy land

Beams every eye-
Kept by a Father's hand

Love cannot die.

On then to glory run;

Be a crown and kingdom won,

And bright above the sun
We reign for aye.

PRAYER.

O blessed Saviour, how can we thank thee enough, for having put a veil over

all thy glory, and coming down to this poor world, and doing and suffering so much, for our sakes, that we might be saved! O Lord, we do bless and praise thee for thy wondrous love; and we hope every day and year to feel it more, and to love thee more in return. We thank thee, O heavenly Father, for that beautiful part of thy word which we have now been reading. O! may the Holy Spirit write all thy word in our hearts. We thank thee for what thou hast told us of the happiness and glory of thy people in heaven. Lord, make us more ready for that blessed place, make us think more of it, and feel more desire to be there. Forgive all our sins, and hear us for Jesus' sake. Amen.

The Raising of Lazarus.

"WHAT is our lesson to be to-day, mamma," said Ellen. "We liked so much, yesterday, to hear about Jesus in his glory, and Moses and Elijah come down from heaven to this world again. Harry and I spoke a great deal about it afterwards."

"I am glad of that, my love," said her mamma. "I would like to think that you do not forget what we read, but think and speak of it when you are together. We read of our Lord in his glory yesterday, and to-day I think we shall read of the most glorious work he did on earth. It was when he called back a spirit that had left the body and gone to another world, not just immediately, like Jarius' daughter, but four days after, when the body was in the grave, and beginning to decay."

Lazarus."

"I am glad you remember his name, but do you know any more about him?"

"We hear very little of him before he died, except that Jesus loved him, that he was a friend of Jesus, and that, we may be sure, shows he was a very holy and delightful person. This chapter in John, where we have the account of his being raised from the dead, is too long for us to read it all, but I shall tell you about it. Lazarus had two sisters, Martha and Mary. We hear of them before; they were both holy women, who loved Christ very much, but they were of different dispositions. Martha was very active and busy, fond of doing a great many useful things. Mary was quiet and gentle; she liked best just to sit at Jesus' feet, and listen to his words; and he said once that she had chosen the better part,' but he loved them both. Read this verse."

"Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus."―John xi. 5.

"Did not Jesus love all men, mamma?"

Yes, he did indeed love all poor sinners, and was willing to suffer and die for them, and to spend his life in teaching and healing them; but he was a true man, and therefore some were dearer to his own heart than others, just as we feel. And I think it is a great comfort to see, from this example of our Lord, that there is no sin in loving our friends very much, if we do not let that keep us from loving himself best. This pious family, the brother and two sisters, were the loved friends of Jesus, and he often was with them at Bethany, the name of the village where they lived. What happy, delightful hours they must have had, when he was with them! But now we are told that Lazarus became very ill, when Jesus was at a distance, and so the sisters sent a message to him, which you may read."

"Therefore his sisters sent unto him,
