X. To the FATHERLESS and WIDOW.

Exod. xxi. 22. Ye fhall not afflict any widow, or fatherlefs child.

Ver. 23. If thou afflict them in any wife, and they cry at all unto me, I will furely hear their cry. Ver. 24. And my wrath fhall wax hot, and I will kill you with the fword: and your wives fhall be widows, and your children fatherless.

Though the Chaldee Paraphrafe underftands thefe words as a promise to the families of the Jews, in their captivity; others more agreeably to the context, look upon them as a threatening against the Edomites, and thus join them to the 10th verfe, and render them: There is none to fay, Leave thy fatherless children,' &c.

will preferve them alive and let thy widows trust in me.

XI. To the CHILDLESS.

Pf. lxviii. 6. God fetteth the folitary in families. Pf. cxiii. 9. He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children.

XII. To the PRISONER and CAPTIVE.
