though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

2 Tim. i. 12. I know whom I have believed, and I am perfuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him, against that day.

Heb. ii. 14. That through death he might deftroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

Ver. 15. And deliver them, who through fear of death, were all their life-time fubject to bondage.

1 Cor. xv. 55. O death! where is thy fting? O grave! where is thy victory?

Ver. 56. The fting of death is fin, and the strength of fin is the law;

Ver. 57. But thanks be to GOD, which giveth us the victory, through our LORD Jefus Chrift.

CHA P. IV.

PROMISES OF BLESSINGS IN THE OTHER WORLD.

I. Of DELIVERANCE from HELL.

SAL. lxxxvi. 13. Great is thy mercy towards

me

lowest *hell.

Prov. x. 2. Righteoufnefs delivereth from death. chap. ii. 4.

Prov. xv. 24. The way of life is above to the wife, that he may depart from *hell beneath.

Ifa. xlv. 17. Ifrael fhall be faved in the LORD, with an everlasting falvation: Ye fhall not be afhamed nor confounded, world without end.

The word hell, in thefe paffages, is probably to be underfood of death and the grave.

Rom. v. 9. Much more being juftified by his blood, we shall be faved from wrath through him. Jefus, which delivered us from the

John . 15. That whofoever believeth in him. fhould not perish, but have eternal life.

John viii. 51. If a man keep my faying, he shall never fee death..

Rev. xx. 9. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the firft refurrection : on fuch the fecond death hath no power.

II. Of HAPPINESS immediately after DEATH.

Pf. lxxxiii. 24. Thou shalt guide me with thy counfel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Job iii. 17. There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary be at reft.

Ver. 18. There the prifoners reft together, they hear not the voice of the oppreffor.

Ifa. lvii. 2. He fhall enter into peace; they shall reft in their beds, each one walking in his uprightnefs.

Luke xvi. 25. Abraham faid, Son, remember, that thou in thy life-time, receivedft thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

Luke xxiii. 43. Jefus faid unto him, Verily I fay unto thee, This day fhalt thou be with me in paradife.

Phil. i. 21. For me to live is Chrift, and to die is gain.

Ver. 23. Having a defire to depart, and to be with Chrift, which is far better.

2 Cor. v. 8. We are confident, I fay, and willing rather to be abfent from the body, and to be prefent with the LORD.

Heb. xii. 23. And to the spirits of just men made perfect.

Rev. xiv. 13. Bleffed are the dead which die in the LORD, from henceforth: yea, faith the Spirit, that they may reft from their labours, and their works do follow them.

Pf. xlix. 15. GOD will redeem my foul from the power of the grave; for he shall receive me.

III. A glorious RESURRECTION.

Job xix. 26. Though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flefh fhail I fee GOD:

Ver. 27. Whom I fhall fee for myself, and mine eyes fhall behold, and not another, though my reins be confumed within me.

I. xxvi. 19. Thy dead men fhall live, together with my dead body fhall they arise. Awake and fing, ye that dwell in the duft; for thy dew is as the dew of herbs; and the earth fhall caft out the dead.

Dan. xii. 2. Many of them that fleep in the duft of the earth fhall awake; fome to everlasting life, and fome to fhame, and everlafting contempt.

Pf. xvi. 9. My flesh also fhall reft in hope: Ver. 10. For thou wilt not leave my foul in hell, neither wilt thou fuffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Luke xx. 35. They which shall be accounted wor thy to obtain that world, and the refurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. Ver. 36. Neither can they die any more; for they are equal unto the angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the refurrection.

John v. 28. The hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

Ver. 29. And fhall come forth; they that have done good, unto the refurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the refurrection of damnation.

John vi. 39. This is the Father's will which hath fent me, that of all which he hath given me, I fhould lofe nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

Ver. 40. And this is the will of him that fent me, that every one that feeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlafting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Ver. 54. Whofo eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and I will raife him up at the last day.

John xi. 25. I am the refurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet fhall he live.

Rom. viii. 11. If the Spirit of him that raised up Jefus from the dead, dwell in you, he that raised up Chrift from the dead, fhall alfo quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

I Cor. xv. 21. Since by man came death, by man came also the refurrection of the dead.

Ver. 22. For as in Adam all die, even fo in Christ fhall all be made alive.

Ver. 42. So alfo is the refurrection of the dead: it is fown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption :

Ver. 43. It is fown in difhonour, it is raised in glory it is fown in weakness, it is raised in power:

Ver. 44. It is fown a natural body, it is raised a fpiritual body.

Ver. 49. As we have born the image of the earthy, we fhall alfo bear the image of the heavenly.

Ver. 51. Behold, I fhew you a mystery; we fhall not all fleep, but we fhall all be changed;

Ver. 52. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the laft trump (for the trumpet fhall found) and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Ver. 53. For this corruptible muft put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Ver. 54. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality: then shall be brought to pafs the faying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

1 Cor. vi. 2. Do not you know, that the faints fhall judge the world?

Ver. 3. Know ye not that we shall judge angels? 2 Cor. v. 1. We know, that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were diffolved, we have a building of GOD, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. >

Ver. 2. For in this we groan, earnestly defiring to be clothed upon with our houfe which is from heaven :

Ver. 3. If fo be, that being clothed, we shall not be found naked.

Ver. 4. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might ba fwallowed up of life.

2 Cor. iv. 14. Knowing, that he which hath raised up the Lord Jefus, fhall raise up us alfo by Jefus, and fhall prefent us with you.

Phil. iii. 21. Who fhall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, ac cording to the working, whereby he is able even to fubdue all things to himself.

1 Theff. iv. 14. If we believe that Jefus died, and rofe again, even fo them alfo which fleep in Jefus, will GOD bring with him.
