3. Thou, LORD, art Love: from thee | 6. When I fee the Garden's beds

pure love

Flows forth in unexhaufted ftreams; Let me its quickning Influence prove, Fill my whole heart with facred flames.

6. Thou, LORD, art good, and thou alone : With eager hope, with warm defire, Thee may I ftill my Portion own, To thee in every thought afpire. 7. So fhall my every power to thee In love, thanks, praife inceffant rife; Yea my whole Soul and Flesh shall be One holy, living facrifice.

8. LORD GOD of Armies, ceafelefs praife.

InHeav'n thy throne to thee is giv'n; Here as in heaven thyName we raife, For where thy Prefence fhines, is

heav'n.

LL the Beauty we can find In the world, brings to my mind

Jefus Chrift, the Caufe of all,
Which we here can beauty call.
2. When I fee the Morning light,
And the rifing Sun fo bright,
I remember inftantly
His tranfcendent Majefty.
3. When the moon I do behold,
And the heav'nly Lamps fo bold,
Then I think my Maker might
Yet bring thousands more to fight.
4. When I fee the Meadow's field
Many thousand colours yield,
Then I fay in extafy:
What must the Creator be?

5. Charming is the Lily's fmell,
Planted by the cooling Well;
Yet my Lily is to me,

Sweeter by a great degree.

Interfpers'd with Whites and reds, It brings fresh unto my fight My beloved red and white. 7. When I go to quench my thirst, Where from rocks the Waters burst ; Then I'm wishing, whilst I drink, Deep into Life's Spring to fink. 8. Often do the little Sheep Make me loftly figh and weep: O how mild is God's dear Lamb, And how tender his love's flame! 9. And whene'er I Honey talte, Or upon fome sweetness feaft Then my heart cries, whilft it feeds, Jefu's Sweetnefs far exceeds. 10. Lovely found the well tun'd ftrings,

And the nightingale well fings, Yet nought is like to this Tone, "Jefus, God's and Mary's Son." 11. It is pleafing to the ear, Th'Eccho in the Grot to hear: Yet nought can fuch joy impart, As his Eccho in the Heart. 12, Altogether lovely Thou! Thy own felf unto me shew! Let me fee thy Countenance With unshaken confidence. 13. O let thy great Godhead's pow'r Me encompaís o'er and o'er. Moft let thy Wound prints fo bright Raife my mind by day and night. 14.Take away the Veil, which might Sometimes intercept the fight, That I may behold always Lamb of God! thy loving Face!

His Body torn with many a wound, That make my foul and body found. 2. The Water spouting from thy Side, The foldier's fpear had open'd wide;

That be my Bath, and all thy Blood Cleanfe me, and bring me near to God.

3. The Blood-fweat trickling down thy face,

Affure my heart of purchas'd Grace; Thy Cross, thy Suff'rings and thy pain

My everlasting Strength remain. 4. Dear Jefu, grant this my request, Take,hide me quite within thy Breaft; And grant me in thy Wounds to dwell,

Secure from all the pow'rs of hell.

yawn;

'Greatest High-prieft, Saviour His gracious Lips once lovely red,

Chrift,

Who for me wast sacrific'd ;
Make my heart, thro' thy bleft Paffion,
To thy felf a pure oblation.
2. Thy pure Love accepts of nought,
But what by thy Love is wrought;
What's not of thy own Formation,
Ne'er attaineth to falvation.

3. Kill in me what is unclean,
Kill in me the Root of fin;
Snatch my Heart from its pollution,

And th'old Man's entire confufion.
4. On the altar lay the wood,
And confume old Adam's brood:
Source of all celeftial Graces,
I would die in thine Embraces.
5. Lo, at length it fhall appear,
That the Lord has heard my Pray'r;
Lo, e'en in my present station,
He'll be pleas'd with my Oblation.

Are pale, befmear'd with gall, and dead.

5.Obferve, O Bride! behold and fee, This all is done to the green Tree! What then must thou expect? I

Dish, Jelu, loben mir.

T Thy ceafclefs praife we ling: Praife fhall our glad tongue employ,

HOU Jefus art our King,

Praife o'erflow our grateful Soul, While we vital breath enjoy, While eternal ages roll. 2. Thou art th' eternal Light, That fhin'it in deepest night: Wond'ring gaz'd th'Angelic train, While thou bow'dft the heav'ns beneath,

God with God, wert Man with man,

Man to fave from endless death. 3. Thou for our pain didft mourn,

Thou haft our Sickness born: All our Sins on thee were laid; Thou with unexampled grace, All the mighty debt haft paid,

Due from Adam's helpless Race. 4. Thou haft o'erthrown the Foe; God's Kingdom fix'd below: Conqu'ror of all adverse pow'r, Thou Heav'n's gates haft open'd wide;

Thou thine own doft lead fecure,
In thy Cross, and by thy Side.
5. Enthron'd above yon sky,
Thou reign'ft with God moft high!
Proftrate at thy Feet we fall:

Pow'r fupreme to thee is giv'n;
Thee, the righteous Judge of all,
Sons of earth and hofts of heav'n.
6. Cherubs with Seraphs join,
And in thy praise combine;
All their Quires thy glories fing.
Who fhall dare with thee to vie?
Mighty Lord, eternal King,
Sov'reign both of earth and sky!
7. The venerable Train,

Patriarchs, First-born of Men; And th'Apoftles of the Lamb, By whofe ftrength they faithful prov'd,

Joint t'extol his facred Name,

Whom in life and death they lov'd. 8. The Church, thro' all her bounds, With thy high praise refounds : Confeffors undaunted here,

Unafham'd proclaim their King;

Children's feebler Voices there
To thy Name Hofannahs fing.
9. 'Mid'it danger's blackest frown,
Thee hofts of Martyrs own:
Pain and Shame alike they dare,
Firmly, fingularly good;
Glorying thy Crofs to bear,

Till they feal their Faith with blood. 10. Wide earth's remotest bound Full of thy praise is found; And all Heav'ns eternal day With thy ftreaming glory flames; All thy foes fhall melt away,

From th'infufferable Beams. 11. O Lord, O God of love, Let us thy Mercy prove! King of all, with pitying eye

Mark the Toil, the pains we feel; Midft the Snares of death we lie, Midft the banded pow'rs of hell. 12. Arife, ftir up thy pow'r,

Thou deathless Conqueror ! Help us to obtain the Prize,

That with thee above the skies, Help us well to close our Race; Endless joys we may possess.

4. LORD, who thy own and Father's Will,

(Which is but one) cam'ft to fulfil !
To thy dread Scepter will I bow:
With duteous rev'rence at thy Feet,
Like humble Mary, lo, I fit:
Speak, LORD, thy fervant heareth
now!

5. Renew thy Image, LORD, in me,
Lowly and gentle may I be,
No charms but thefe to thee are dear;
No Anger may'ft thou ever find,
No Pride in my unruffled mind,
But faith and heav'n-born Peace be

there.

6. A patient, a victorious Mind That, life and all things caft behind, Springs forth obedient to thy Call; A heart, that no Defire can move, But ftill t'adore, believe and love: Give me, myLORD, my Life, myAll.

To my finking foul afford: Love almighty, &c.

God of love! thou'ft not difdained
To become a Man like me :

I would be for ever thine.

Him whom I call properly. My Beloved and my Lover,

Who laid down his life for me! I'll embrace thee clofe, my Brother, We will never leave each other! I will never let him go, Till he bleffeth me also. | 2. Jefus cur'd my foul's infection By his precious Stripes and wounds: O most powerful reflection!

Hence my chiefeft Good redounds; Thro' his Death and holy Merit I fhall Heaven itself inherit.

I believe

I believe this heartily:
He faves freely thee and me.
3. Others may feek fatisfaction
In this poor World's vanity;
Mean while fhall my heart's
fection

On my Saviour fixed be,
On his meritorious Suff'ring
And fin-expiating Off'ring:
World! for ever be thou gone,
Leave but Chrift and me alone.
4. Jefus yields me delectation,

af

He's the comfort of my heart;
Sweetens all my tribulation,
Strengthens when my ftrength de-
parts:

He's the Object of my vision,
In him is true Life's fruition!
Therefore Chrift fhall ne'er depart
From my fight and from my heart.
5. O! I'm loft in deepest Wonder,

To think, he shall soon appear
To receive me gladly yonder,

And wipe off my ev'ry Tear: Then I'll raise my voice with finging,

And about his Feet be clinging.
Mean while faith my very Heart,
Christ and I fhall never part.

465.

Jefu, komm doch selbß zu mir.

Eareft Jefu, come to me, And abide eternally. Worthy Friend of finners come, Fill and make my heart thy Home. 2. Oftentimes for thee I figh, Nothing else can give me joy : This is ftill my Cry to thee, Dearest Jefu, come to me.

3.

[blocks in formation]

Nay, I would be facrific'd
To obtain this confolation,
That I might enjoy the Sight
Of his good and gracious Light.
2. Jefus will I never leave,
Whilft I breath and have my Senfes &
From his Merits I receive
Pardon for my paft Offences:
All the powers of my mind
To my Saviour are refign'd.
Shou'd I lose my very fight,
Touch and hearing, smell and ta-
fting,

3.

Lord, thy love fhall give me Light,
When my nat'ral Oil is wafting;
When from Earth my life is rent,
Christ shall be my Element.
4. Lefs, far lefs, I then shall part
From my Lord, when in his Glory
I fhall fee my loving heart
Rais'd above what's tranfitory;
Then with all his faithful race,
I'll rejoice before his Face.

Should I in Earth's pleafures roll,5, Earth nor heav'n can fatisfy

None could fatisfy my foul;

Thee, O Jefu! I adore,

Thou'rt my Pleafure evermore.

One Defire of God's infpiring;
Only Jefus can fupply

All I'm holily defiring:
