The fhame, the death, the fin I feel :
Confider, LORD; thine ear incline!
The Crofs hath made my Suff 'rings
thine.

5. Thou, JESU, on th'accurfed tree
Didft bow thy dying Head for me;
Incline it now! who made the ear,
Shall he, fhall he forbear to hear!
6. See thy poor Duft, in pity fee,
It firs, it creeps, it aims at Thee!
Halte, fave it from the greedy tomb!
Come! ev'ry Atom bids thee come!
7. 'Tis thine to help! forget me not!
O be thy Mercy ne'er forgot!
Lock'd were thy ear? yet ftill my
plea
Might fpeed for Mercy keeps the
key.

13. When Man was loft, Love look'd
about,

To fee what help in earth or sky:
In vain, for none appear'd without,
The Help did in God's Bofom lie!
4.There lay the Son: but left his reft
Thraldom and mis'ry to remove
From thofe, who Glory once poffeft,
But wantonly abus'd God's love.
5.Thou cam'ft!O my Redeemer dear!
And canft thou after this be ftrange?
Nor to my heart unveil'd appear!
Can minds like thine or fail or
change?

6. But if thou tarrieft, why must I ?
My GoD, what is this World to me!
This world of woe! hence let them
Ay,

The clouds that part my foul and
Thee.

7. A Sigh thou breath'ft into my

heart,

And earthly Joys I view with fcorn:
Far from my foul, ye Dreams depart
Nor mock me with your vain return!
8 Idly we talk of harvests here,
Eternity our Harvest is :
Grace brings the great fabbaticYear,
When ripen'd into glorious Bliss.
9 Oloofe this Frame, life's knot untie,
That my free Soul may use herWing;
Now pinion'd with Mortality,
A weak, entangled, wretched thing!
10. Why fhould I longer stay and
groan ?

The most of me to Heav'n is fled :
My thoughts and joys are thither

I will love thee;

And that Love may never cease,

I will move thee:

Thou didst note my working Breaft,
Thou haft heard me,
Thou hast heard, and spar'd me!
2. Wherefore with my utmost art
I will fing thee;

And the Cream of all my heart
I will bring thee:

Tho' my Sins against me cry'd,

Thou didst hear me,

Thou didst hear, and clear me !
3. Sev'n whole days,not cne in fev'n,

In my heart an humble Heav'n

To extol thee,

I can but enrol thee.

HEN Mary wip'd her Saviour's Feet, (Whofe laws fhe trampl'd on before) Shewing, his Steps fhould be the ftreet,

Wherein the thenceforth evermore With humbleness would live and tread;

Yea, plac'd thofe Jewels on her head: 2. To cleanse him, who can't be defil'd,

So ftain'd herself, why did she strive? Her tears (fince fins fo deep are pil'd, We reach not, tho' in Tears we dive Like feas, for words and works and thoughts)

Why kept the not for her ownFaults? 3. She

AST not heard, that Lord JESUS dy'd? Then let me tell thee a strange Story. The God of pow'r, as he did ride In his majestic Robes of glory, F. Refolv'd to light; and fo one day He did, undreffing all the way.

2. And firft, as travellers are wont, 0 He did repair unto an Inn :

Both then, and after, many a brunt
He did endure, to cancel fin;
And having giv'n the rest before,
Gave up his Life to pay our Score.
3.Ere he to heav'n return'd,came one
That ran upon him with a Spear :
He who came hither all alone,
Bringing nor men, nor arms, nor
fear,

Receiv'd this blow upon his Side,
Then (as 'twere) to his brethren cry'd:
4. If ye have any thing to write,
(Tho' I've no post-bag, yet I've
room)

Unto my Father's hands and fight,
Believe me, it fhall fafely come:
To fhew, I'll mind what you impart,
Look! you may put it near my Heart.
5. If ever any of my Friends

Will ufe me in this kind, the door
Shall ftill be open; what he fends
I will prefent, and fomewhat more,
Not to his hurt: Sighs will convey
All to me. Then, Despair! away.

Ome, my Way, my Truth, my

C Life!

Such a Way, as gives us breath: Such a Truth, as ends all strife : Such a Life, as killeth death. 2. Come, my light, my feast, my ftrength!

Such a Light, as shews a feast : Such a Feast, as mends by length: Such a Strength, as makes its gueft. 3.Come, my joy, my love, my heart!

Such a Joy, as none can move : Such a Love, as none can part: Such a Heart, as joys in love.

Ook hither, ye whofe Tafte, Doth lead you to much waste !

Save your coft, and mend your fare; God is here prepar'd and drest, God, in whom all dainties are,

Deigns himself to be the Feat. 2. Look hither, ye whom Wine

Doth, to your shame, define! Weep that ye have drunk amifs,

What has not been for your Good; Supplicate to drink of this,

Which before you drink is Blood. 3. Look hither, whom falfe Joy Doth ruin and destroy, While ye graze without your bounds! Here is Joy, that drowneth quite, As a flood the lower grounds,

Your inordinate delight. 4. Come near, whom true Heart's

Pain

Doth wholefomly arraign, Bringing all your fins to light!

Tafte and fear not; God is here, And on Sin doth caft the fright, While ye arm you with this Cheer

Thy Delight,

In its moft tranfcendent neatrefs.
From the Cup I tafte a sweetness,
Such as is, and makes divine!
2. As we fugar melt in Wine,
Is fome ftar, fled from the sphere,
Melted there?

Hath all Sweetness in the Bread
Made a head

(Flow'rs and gums and powders giving

All their odoriferous living)

To fubdue the Smell of fin?
3. Such a sweetness to impart,
Doubtlefs neither ftar nor flower
Hath the power:

Only God, who gives Perfumes,
Flesh affumes,

(That this Spice be better fcented,
Here, as bruifed, 'tis prefented)

And with it perfumes my heart. 4. When I in bafe joys was drown'd, And forgetting my high birth,

Cleav'd to Earth;

God took Blood, and needs would be

Spilt with me:
This prevented my Undoing,
And I now get eyes for viewing
Him who did fo much for me!
5. This remains my final Wish,
(Hearken under pain of death,
Hands and breath!
And that fingle With t' atchieve,
Gladly frive)

May the Wonder of his Pity
