JOHN VIII. 59.-1x. 1-5.

A. D. 32.

God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive | said it, that they may believe that my spirit, Acts vii. 56-59. thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth! And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go, 40-44.

Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand, John x. 39. And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. But he, passing through the midst of them, went his way, Luke iv. 29, 30. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him ; and he vanished out of their sight, xxiv. 31.

VER. 2.

Καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, λέγοντες· Ραββί, τίς ἥμαρτεν, οὗτος, ἢ οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἵνα τυφλὸς γεννηθῇ ;

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

VER. 3.

Jesus answered, a Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: b but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

a And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish,

Luke xiii. 1, 2.

b When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby, John xi. 4. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I

But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works; that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him, 37, 38. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have ånished the work which thou gavest me to do, xvii. 4. See also on Matt. iv. 23. clause 4. and 24. clauses 3-6.

b See on chap. viii. ver. 42. clause 3.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him, John xi. 9, 10. Then while is the light with you. Walk Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while ye have the light, lest dark

ness come upon you: for he that
walketh in darkness knoweth not whi-
ther he goeth, xii. 35. Whatsoever
thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy
might; for there is no work, nor de-
vice, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in
the
grave, whither thou goest, Eccles.

And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly, 2395. And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, Deut. xxxiv. 10.
