the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight. And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the Lord, Gideon said, Alas, Q Lord God! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face. And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die. Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-Shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites. And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it: And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down, Judg. vi. 1226. For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the Lord. And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and a meat-offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these, xiii. 20-23. In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LoRD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory, Isa. vi. 1—3. And VOL. 11.

above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. And I saw as the colour of amber as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake, Ez. i. 26— 28. He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God: Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us; Even the LORD God of hosts; The LORD is his memorial, Hos. xii. 3-5. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him, Matt. xi. 27. All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him, Luke x. 22. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life, 1 John v. 20. VER. 19.

things I say, that ye might be saved. He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me, John v. 33-36.

And thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall shew thee the sentence of judgment: And thou shalt do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall shew thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they inform thee: According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the sentence which they shall shew thee to the right hand, nor to the left, Deut. xvii. 9-11. Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do, xxiv. 8. And when he was come into the temple, the Chief Priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? Matt. xxi. 23.

Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell as plainly, John x. 24. And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose, Acts xiii. 25. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Je

that I am sent before him. He that
hath the bride is the bridegroom: but
the friend of the bridegroom, which
standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth
greatly because of the bridegroom's
voice: this my joy therefore is ful-
filled. He must increase, but I must
decrease. He that cometh from above
is above all: he that is of the earth is
earthly, and speaketh of the earth:
he that cometh from heaven is above
all. And what he hath seen and
heard, that he testifieth; and no man
receiveth his testimony. He that hath
received his testimony hath set to his
seal that God is true. For he whom
God hath sent speaketh the words of
God: for God giveth not the Spirit
by measure unto him. The Father
loveth the Son, and hath given all
things into his hand. He that believ-
eth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall
not see life; but the wrath of God
abideth on him, John iii. 28-36. I
indeed baptize you with water unto
repentance: but he that cometh after
me is mightier than I, whose shoes I
am not worthy to bear: he shall bap-
tize you with the Holy Ghost, and
with fire: Whose fan is in his hand,
and he will throughly purge his floor,
and gather his wheat into the garner;
but he will burn up the chaff with un-
quenchable fire, Matt. iii. 11,12. And
preached, saying, There cometh one
mightier than I after me, the latchet
of whose shoes I am not worthy to
stoop down and unloose. I indeed
have baptized you with water: but
he shall baptize you with the Holy
Ghost, Mark i. 7, 8. And as the
people were in expectation, and all
men mused in their hearts of John,
whether he were the Christ or not;
John answered, saying unto them all,
I indeed baptized you with water;
but one mightier than I cometh, the
latchet of whose shoes I am not wor-
thy to unloose: he shall baptize you
with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
Whose fan is in his hand, and he will
throughly purge his floor, and will
gather the wheat into his.garner; but
the chaft he will burn with fre un-
quenchable, Luke iii. 15-17.

a Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord, Mal. iv. 5. And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come, thou? that we may give an answer to them Then said they unto him, Who art Matt. xi. 14. And his disciples ask-that sent us: What sayest thou of thyself? ed him, saying, Why then say the Scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them, xvii. 10-12. And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just: to make ready a people prepared for the Lord, Luke i. 17.

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou art not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? ver: 25. Many of the people, therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet, vii. 40. The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; According to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb, in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire more, that I die not. And the Lonb said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken, Deut. xviii. 15-18. But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold, the Lamb of God! ver. 36. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt-offering: so they went both of them together, Gen. xxii. 7, 8. Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house. And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep or from the goats, Exod. xii. 3. And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire, which ye shall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot, day by day, for a continual burnt-offering. The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even; and a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat-offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil. And the other lamb shalt thou offer at even; as the meatoffering of the morning, and as the drink-offering thereof, thou shalt offer it, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD. And on the sabbath-day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of four for a meat-offering, mingled with oil, and the drink-offering thereof: This is the burnt-offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burntoffering, and his drink-offering, Numb. xxviii. 3-10. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter; and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth, Isa. liii. 7. The place of the Scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearers, so opened he not his mouth, Acts viii. 32. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints, 8.
