SECT. XIII. He is Gracious, Good, and Bountiful.

I AM gracious.-Exod. xxii, 27.

The Lord God, merciful and gracious, &c. abundant in goodness, &c. -Exod. xxxiv. 6. Ps. xxxiii. 5.

Thou art a God, &c. gracious, &c. of great kindness.-Neh. ix. 17. 31.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; no good thing will he withhold from them who walk uprightly. Ps. lxxxiv. 11.

For the Lord is good, &c.-Ps. c. 5. lxxxvi. 5. cxxxvi. 1-3, &c. Great is thy bounty above the heavens. Ps. cviii. 4.

They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, &c. The Lord is gracious, &c. The Lord is good to all, &c.-Ps. cxlv. 7-9. ciii. 8.

Therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious to you, &c. and that he may have mercy, &c. Isa. xxx, 18.

Let him who glorieth, glory in this, That, &c. he knoweth me, that I am the Lord, who exercise loving-kindness, &c. in the earth: For in these things I delight, saith the Lord, &c. -Jer. ix. 24. Matt. v. 45.

Not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance.Rom. ii. 4.

The forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace, wherein he hath abounded toward us, &c.-Eph. i, 7, 8.

That in the ages to come, he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness toward us, through Jesus Christ.-Eph. ii. 7.

Let him ask of God, who giveth unto all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given, &c.Jam. i. 5.

The God of all grace, who hath called us, &c.-1 Pet. v. 10. SECT. XIV. He is Faithfulness and Truth.

THE Lord, &c. abundant in goodness and truth.-Exod. xxxiv. 6.

God is not a man that he should lie, &c. Hath he said, and shall he not do it? or, hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good-Numb. xxiii. 19. Heb. vi. 18. 1 Sam. xv. 29. Tit. i. 2. Rom. iii. 4.

Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God; the faithful God, who keepeth covenant, &c. to a thousand generations, &c.-Deut. vii. 9. 1 Cor. i. 9. 2 Tim. ii. 13. Deut. iv. 31.

Not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spake concerning you; all are, &c.Josh. xxiii. 14. xxi. 45.

Thou art that God, and thy words be true; and thou hast promised, &c.-2 Sam. vii. 28. Heb. x. 23. 1 Kings viii. 56.

Thy faithfulness reacheth to the clouds.-Ps. xxxvi. 5. cviii. 4.

The heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints, &c. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face, &c. Nevertheless, my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him; nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.-Ps. lxxxix. 5. 14. 33. xxxvi. 5. Deut. xxxii. 4. Ps. cviii. 4.

The Lord is good, &c. his truth endureth to all generations.-Ps. c. 5. cxvii. 2. cxix. 89, 90.

He will ever be mindful of his covenant, &c. The works of his hands are verity, &c. are done in truth and uprightness.-Ps. cxi. 5. 7, 8.

Happy is he, &c. whose hope is in the Lord his God, &c. who keepeth truth for ever.-Ps. cxlvi. 5, 6. Heb.

x. 23.

He who blesseth himself in the earth, shall bless himself in the God of truth and he who sweareth in the earth, shall swear by the God of truth.—Isa. xv. 16.

Great is thy faithfulness, &c. Out of the mouth of the Most High proceedeth not evil and good, &c.Lam. iii. 23. 38.

Blessed be God who visited his people, and hath raised up horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; as he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began, -Luke i. 68–70.

God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able, &c.-1 Cor. x. 13. 1 Thess. v. 24. 1 Cor. i. 9.

Two immutable things, wherein it is impossible for God to lie, &c. Heb. vi. 18.

Commit the keeping of their souls to God, as unto a faithful Creator. 1 Pet. iv. 19.

How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge? &c, -Rev. vi. 10.

SECT. XV. He is Unchangeable. I AM the Lord; I change not: therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed, &c.-Mal. iii. 6.

God willing, &c. to shew the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath ; that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, &c. Heb. vi. 17, 18.

The Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Jam. i. 17.

also, but I perceive him not.-Job ix. 10, 11. xxxiii. 12, 13.

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?-Job xi. 7.

By his Spirit he hath garnished the heavens, &c. Lo, these are part of his ways, but how little a portion is heard of him?—Job xxvi. 13, 14.

Behold, God is great, and we know him not; neither can the number of his years be searched out.-Job xxxvi. 26.

Great things doth he, which we cannot comprehend, &c. Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, &c.— Job xxxvii. 5. 23.

Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters: and thy footsteps are not known. Ps. lxxvii. 19.

O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep,Ps. xcii. 5.

Great is the Lord, &c. and his greatness is unsearchable.--Ps. cxlv. 3,

Great is our Lord, &c. his understanding is infinite.-Ps. cxlvii. 5.

Who hath ascended up into heaven, &c. what is his name? and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? -Prov. xxx. 4.

O the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? &c.-Rom. xi. 33-35.

SECT. XVII. He is Eternal. AND Abraham, &c. called there on the name of the Lord, the everlasting God.-Gen. xxi. 33.

The eternal God is thy refuge; and underneath are the everlasting arms. -Deut. xxxiii. 27.

And also the strength (or eternity) of Israel will not lie.-1 Sam. xv. 29. The Lord shall endure for ever, &c. -Ps. ix. 7. civ. 31.

Before the mountains were brought forth, &c. even from everlasting to everlasting thou art God, &c. For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday, when it is past, and as a watch in the night.-Ps. xc. 2. 4. 2 Pet. iii. 8.

Thou, Lord, art most high for evermore.-Ps. xcii. 8.

The Lord reigneth, &c. Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting. Ps. xciii. 1, 2. cxlvi. 10. Thou, O Lord, shalt endure for ever: and thy remembrance unto all generations, &c. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure, &c. Thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.-Ps. cii. 12. 26, 27. Lam. v. 19.

Thy Name, O Lord, endureth for ever and thy memorial throughout all generations.-Ps. cxxxv. 13. Isa. lxiii. 16.

Hast thou not known, &c. that the everlasting God, the Lord, &c.-Isa. xl. 28.

Yea, before the day was, I am he, &c.-Isa. xliii. 13.

Thus saith the Lord, &c. I, the first, and I, the last and besides me, there is no God.-Isa. xliv. 6. xlviii. 12. xli. 4.

Thus saith the high and lofty One, who inhabiteth eternity, &c.-Isa. lvii. 15.

The Lord, the true God, he is, &c. an everlasting King.-Jer. x. 10. Dan. iv. 3. 34.

Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever: thy throne from generation to generation. Lam. v. 19.

For the invisible things of him, &c. even his eternal power and godhead. Rom. i. 20.

Now is made manifest, &c. according to the commandment of the everlasting God.-Rom. xvi. 26.

Christ, who, through the eternal Spirit, offered himself, &c.-Heb. ix. 14.

Now unto the King eternal, &c. the only wise God, &c.-1 Tim. i. 17.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord; which is, and which was, and which is to come: the Almighty, &c.-Rev. i. 8. 11. 17. xi. 17. ii. 8. xxii. 13.

Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.-Rev. iv. 8. Worshipped him who liveth for ever and ever.-Rev. v. 14. xv. 7. SECT. XVIII.

He only is the True and Living God.

UNTO thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the Lord he is God; there is none else besides him, &c.

Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord, he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath; there is none else. Deut. iv. 35. 39. vii. 9. 1 Sam. ii. 2.

The Lord our God is one Lord.Deut. vi. 4. Mark xii. 29. 32. 1 Cor. viii. 4-6. Gal. iii. 20. Mal. ii. 10.

See now that I, I am he; and there is no God with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal, &c.— Deut. xxxii. 39. Isa. xliii. 10-12.

And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you; and that he will, &c.—Josh. iii. 10. Ruth iii. 13. 1 Sam. xx. 3. 2 Sam. xxii. 47. 1 Kings xvii. 1. Job xxvii. 2. Deut. xxxii. 40.

Who is God, save the Lord? And who is a rock, save our God?-2 Sam. xxii. 32. Ps. xviii. 31. Exod. ix. 14. 1 Sam. ii. 2.

O Lord God of Israel, &c. thou art the God: thou alone, of all, &c.— 2 Kings xix. 15. 19. Neh. ix. 6. Ps. lxxxvi. 10.

My heart and flesh crieth out for the living God.-Ps. lxxxiv. 2. Jer. xliv. 26.

From everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.-Ps. xc. 2.

Know ye, that the Lord, he is God; he hath made us, and we are his, &c. -Ps. c. 3. 1 Kings viii. 60. xviii. 39. 2 Kings v. 15.

Thus saith the Lord, the King of Israel, &c. I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me, there is no God, &c. Have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Yea, no God, &c.-Isa. OF THE ONE GOD, FATher, son, and

But the Lord he is the true God; he is the living God.-Jer. x. 10. xxiii. 36. Matt. xvi. 16. John vi. 57.69.

Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles who can cause rain? &c. Art thou not he, O Lord our God? &c. Thou hast made all these things. Jer. xiv. 22.

Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: Is there any thing too hard for me?-Jer. xxxii. 27. Ps. xlvi. 10. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus, &c.-John xvii. 3. 1 Thess. i. 9.

Turn from these vanities unto the living God, who made heaven, &c. Acts xiv. 15. 2 Cor. vi. 16. 1 Tim. iv. 10. 1 Thess. i. 9.

Who changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, &c. who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever, Amen.-Rom. i. 23. 25.

CHAP. III.

SPIRIT; OR THE TRINITY. GOD said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, &c. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him.-Gen. i. 26, 27. Col. i. 15-17. Heb. i. 2.: Mal. ii. 10.

And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of Us, &c. Gen. iii. 22. Hosea xii. 4, 5. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, &c. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language.-Gen. xi. 6, 7. Isa. vi. 8.

Not so my Lord, &c. I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken, &c. Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.: -Gen. xix. 18. 21. 24.

As captain of the Lord's host am I now come, &c. And Joshua, &c. did worship, &c.-Josh. v. 14, 15.

And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord who hath chosen Jerusalem, &c. -Zech. iii. 2.

All things are delivered unto me of

my Father: and no man knoweth the Son but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.-Matt. xi. 27.

The woman of Canaan came to Jesus and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help.-Matt. xv. 22. 25. xiv. 33. xxviii. 9.

The eleven disciples went, &c. where Jesus had appointed them; and when they saw him, they worshipped him, &c. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven, and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.-Matt. xxviii. 16-20.

Why doth this man thus speak blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God only, &c. But, that ye may know, that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, he saith unto the sick, &c. Arise.-Mark ii. 7. 9-11.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, &c. The world was made by him, &c. And the Word was made flesh, &c.-John i. 1, 2. 10. 14.

Jesus, &c. knew all men, and needed not that any should testify of man for he knew what was in man John ii. 24, 25. Matt. xii. 25.

No man hath ascended, &c. but he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man, who is in heaven. -John iii. 13.

Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work, &c. The Jews sought the more to kill him, because, &c. he said, God was his Father; making himself equal with God, &c. The Son can do nothing of him self, but what he seeth the Father do for, whatsoever things he doth, these also doth the Son likewise, &c. As the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them, even so the Son quickeneth whom he will, &c. That

all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father: he who honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. -John v. 17, &c.

What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? -John vi. 62.

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.-John viii. 58.

Dost thou believe on the Son of God? and Jesus said, &c. Thou hast both seen him, and it is he who talketh with thee, &c. and he worshipped him.-John ix. 35-38.

My Father, who gave them me, is greater than all: and none is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one, &c. Believe the works; that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him.-John x. 29, 30. 33. 35, 36. 38.

Jesus knew that Lazarus was dead.
John xi. 14.

He who believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him who sent me. And he who seeth me, seeth him who sent me.-John xii. 44, 45.

Jesus knowing, &c. that he was come from God, and went to God.John xiii. 3.

If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He who hath seen me, hath seen the Father, and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself: but the Father who dwelleth in me, He doeth the works. Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me, &c. Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, &c. I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
