EPISTLE. 1 John iii. 13. 11.

EARLY beloved: Wonder not if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. * He that loveth not, remaineth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother, is a murderer; and you know that no murderer hath life everlasting abiding in him. In this we have known the love of God, because he hath laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for our brethren. He that hath the goods of this world, and seeing his brother in necessity, shall shut his bowels against him; how doth the love of God abide in him? My little children let us

love, not in words and with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

GRAD. Ps. cxix. When I was in distress, I cried out to the Lord, and he heard me. V. Deliver, O Lord, my soul from wicked lips, and from the deceitful tongue. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. O Lord my God, I have put my trust in thee: save me from all that persecute me, and rescue me. luia.

GOSPEL. Luke xiv. 16. 24.

T that time: Jesus spoke this parable to the Pharisees: A certain man made a great supper, and invited many. And he sent his servant at supper-time, to bid those come, who were invited; for that now every thing was ready. And they all together began to excuse themselves. One said to him: I have bought a farm, and must needs go and see it: pray, excuse me. another said: I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them: pray excuse me. And another said: I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. And

And

the servant returning, told these things to his Lord. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servants : Go out quickly into the streets, and lanes of the city; and bring in the poor, and the weak, and the blind, and the lame. And the servant said: Lord, 'tis done, as thou commandedst, and there is yet room. And the Lord said to the servant: Go out into the highways, and hedges, and make people come in, that my house may be filled. But I say to you: None of those, that were invited, shall taste my supper. CREDO. OFFERT. Ps. vi. Turn again, O Lord, and rescue my soul: save me for thy mercies sake.

EPISTLE. 1 Peter v. 6. 10.

EARLY beloved: Be humble under the powerful hand of God, that he may raise you up at the time of his visitation: casting all your solicitude on him, for he hath care of you. Be sober, and watch: for your adversary the Devil goeth about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour: whom do ye resist, being stedfast in faith knowing that your brethren, who are in the world are under the same sufferings. But the God
