EPISTLE. 1 Peter ii. 21.

EARLY beloved: Christ suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you may follow his steps. He who committed no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.* Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, threatened not; but delivered himself up to him, who condemned him unjustly; who bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we being dead to sin, may live to righteousness; by whose stripes you are healed. For you were like sheep gone astray; but now you are returned to the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

GOSPEL. John x. 11. 16.

T that time: Jesus said to the Pharisees: I am the good Shepherd. The good Shepherd giveth his life for his sheep; but the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, and to whom the sheep belong not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth; and the wolf catcheth and scatereth the sheep. And the

hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and is not concerned in the sheep. I am the good Shepherd, and I know my sheep, and my sheep know me; as the Father knoweth me, I also know the Father, and I lay down my life for my sheep. I have moreover other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. CREDO.

OFFERT. Ps. lxii. O God, my God, to thee I watch from break of day: and at thy name I will lift up my hands. Alleluia. SECRET.

Deus, Deus meus, ad te de luce vigilo: et in nomine tuo levabo manus meas. Alleluia.

May this holy oblation, O Lord, draw down upon us thy saving blessing; and always produce in us the effect of what is represented in these sacred mysteries. Thro'.

EPISTLE. 1 Pet. 11. 19.

EARLY beloved; I beseech you, as strangers and travellers, to abstain from carnal desires, which war against the soul; * And behave won amongst ne Gentiles; that, whereas they speak against you as evil doers, they may consider you by your good works, and glorify God in the day of his visitation. Be subject therefore, for the sake of God, to every human creature, whether it be to the King, as to the Sovereign; or to his Governors, as to persons sent by him for the punishment of those that do ill, and for the praise of those that do well. For such is the will of God, that, doing well, you may silence the ignorance of foolish men; as free, and not as making your liberty a cloak for wickedness, but as servants of God. Honour all men; love the brotherhood; fear God, honour the King. Servants be submissive to your masters with all fear; not only to such as are good and gentle, but also to those that are peevish. For this is well pleasing to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Ps. 110. The Lord hath redeemed his people. Alleluia. V. Christ was to suffer, and rise again from the dead, and so enter into his glory. Alleluia.

Alleluia, Alleluia. V. Redemptionem misit Dominus populo suo. Alleluia. V. Opportebat pati Christum, et resurgere a mortuis, et ita intrare in gloriam suam. Alleluia.

GOSPEL. John xvi. 16. 22.

T that time; Jesus said to his disciples; a little while and now you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me; because I go to the Father. Then some of his disciples said to one another; what is this he saith to us? a little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me, and, because I go to the Father. They said therefore; what is it he meaneth by a little while? we know not what he meaneth. But Jesus knowing they had a mind to ask him, he said to them; you are enquiring of one another what is the meaning of what I said; A little while, and you shall not see me? and again a little while, and you shall see me? Verily, verily I say to you; you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. A woman in labour is sorrowful, because her time is come; but when she is delivered of a child, she remembereth now no more her anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. And so you are now sorrowful; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice; and your joy no man shall take from you. Credo. Lauda, anima mea Dominum; landabo Dominum in vita mea; Psallam Deo meo quamdiu ero. Alleluia.

OFFERT. Ps.cxlv. Praise the Lord, O my soul; I will praise the Lord, while I live I will sing a psalm to my God, while I have a being. Alleluia.

SECRET. May these sacred mysteries, O Lord, diminish in us the love of the things of this world, and increase the love of such as are eternal. Thro'.

COMM. John xvi. A little while, and you shall not see me. Alleluia: again a little while, and you shall see me: because I go to the Father. Alleluia, Alleluia.

POSTCOMM. Sacramenta. May the sacrament we have received, O Lord, supply us with the spiritual food of the soul, and all necessary helps of the body Thro'.
