119. Perverfenefs charged upon Sinners. Deut. xxxii.5. They have corrupted themselves, their Spot is not the Spot of God's Children, they are a perverfe and crooked Generation.

Frowardness.

121. Threats against the Froward. Deut. xxxii. 20. I will hide my Face from them, they are a very froward Generation, Children in whom is no Faith,

Job v. 13. The Counsel of the Froward is carried headlong.

122. The Righteous not froward. Pf. ci. 4. A froward Heart fhall depart from me.

Prov. viii. 8. All the Words of Wisdom's Mouth are Righteousness, there is nothing froward or perverfe in them. See froward Tongue, froward Mouth.

Prov. vi. 12. A wicked Man walketh with a froward Mouth.

x. 31. The froward Tongue fhall be cut out.

Ver. 32. The Mouth of the Wicked speaketh Frowardness, Ver. 30. xvi. 28. A froward Man foweth Strife. See Ch. 17. 20.

Stubbornnefs.

123. Stubbornness, the Stiff necked in their own Ways, and Ways of their own Sight and Eyes. Exod. xxxii. 9. The Lord faid, it is a stiff-necked People.

Ver. 10. Let me alone that my Wrath may wax hot against them, that I may confume them.

xxxiii. 3. 5. The Lord faid, I will not go up in the Midft of thee, left I confume thee, for thou art a stiff-necked People, Deut. 9. 6. 13. Deut. xxix. 19. If any fay I fhall have Peace, though I walk in the Imagination of my Heart, to add Drunkenness to Thirit.

Ver. 20. The Lord will not fpare him, but the Anger of the Lord and his Jealousy shall smoke against that Man, and all the Curfes that are written in this Book fhall lye upon him, and the Lord shall blot out his Name from under Heaven.

Jer. vii. 24. They turned not, nor inclined their Ear, but walked in the Counfels and in the Imagination of their evil Hearts, and went backward and not forward, Ver. 25, 26.

Ver. 29. The Lord hath rejected and forfaken the Generation of his Wrath.

xxxi. 18. Ephraim said, thou haft chastised me as a Bullock unaccuftomed to the Yoke.

The fame Thing is implied in thofe Expeffions of walking after the Counsel or the Imagination of an evil Heart, as in the following Scriptures.

Eccl. xi. 9. O young Man, walk in the Ways of thine Heart and in the Sight of thine Eyes, but know, that for all thefe Things God will bring thee to Judgment.

Jer. iii. 17. Neither fhall they walk any more after the Imagination of their evil Heart, Chap. 9. 14.-11. 8.-13. 10.—16 12.—17. 23. 23. 17.

Revolting.

124. The Wicked are Revolters. Ifa. i. 5. Why will ye be stricken any more, ye will revolt more and more.

Ifa. xxxi. 6 The Children of Ifrael have deeply revolted, Ch. 59, 13. Jer. v. 23. This People hath a revolting and rebellious Heart, Ch. 6. 28.

Hof. ix. 15. I will love them no more, all their Princes are Revolters.

Rebellion.

125. Rebellion against God forbidden. Numb. xiv. 9. Rebel not against the Lord, the Lord is with us, Pf. 78. 8.

Jof. xxii. 29. The People faid, God forbid that we should rebel against the Lord, and turn from following him:

Threats. 1 Sam xii. 15. If ye will rebel against the Commandment of the Lord, then shall the Hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your Fathers.

xv. 23. Rebellion is as the Sin of Witchcraft, Stubbornness is as Iniquity and Idolatry.

Neh. ix. 26. They were difobedient and rebelled against thee, caft thy Law behind their Backs, and wrought great Provocations. Ver. 27. Therefore thou deliveredft them into the Hands of their Enemies, who vexed them.

cvii. 11. Because they rebelled against the Words of God, and contemned the Counsels of the most High.

Ifa. i. 2. I have nourished and brought up Children, and they have rebelled against me.

Ver. 9. Except the Lord had left us a very small Remnant, we fhould have been as Sodom and like unto Gomorrah, Ver. 19, 20.

xxx. 1. Wo to rebellious Children, faith the Lord, that take Counfel but not of me, and that cover with a Covering, but not of my Spirit.

Ver. 9. This is a rebellious People, lying Children, that will not hear the Law of the Lord.

xlv. 9. Wo to him that striveth with his Maker.

Ixiii. 10. They rebelled and vexed his holy Spirit, therefore he was turned to be their Enemy, and he fought against them.

lxv. 2. I have fpread out mine Hands all Day to a rebellious People, which walketh in a Way that is not good, after their own Thoughts. lxv. 3. A People that provoketh me to Anger continually to my Face.

Ver. 6. I will recompenfe into their Bofom their Iniquities.

Jer. iv. 17. Enemies are against thee round about, because the hath been rebellicus againft me, faith the Lord.

Ver. 18. Thy Ways and thy Doings have procured these Things unto thee.

Enemies, Adverfaries.

126. Enemies, Adverfaries of the Lord. Deut. 32. 43. God will render Vengeance to his Adverfaries.

1 Sam. ii. 10. The Adverfaries of the Lord fhall be broken to Pieces.

Pf. xxxvii. 20. The Enemies of the Lord fhall be as the Fat of Lambs, into Smoke fhall they confume away.

lxviii. 1. Let God arife, let his Enemies be scattered, Pf. 83. 1, 2. Ver. 21. God shall wound the Head of his Enemies.

xcvii. 3. A Fire goeth before him, and burneth up his Enemies round about.

Ifa. i. 24. I will eafe me of mine Adverfaries, and avenge me of mine Enemies, faith the Lord.

lix. 18. According to their Deeds, he will repay Fury to his Adverfaries.

Ixiv. 2. Make thy Name known to thine Adversaries.

lxvi. 6. A Voice of Noife from the City, a Voice of the Lord, that rendereth Recompence to his Enemies.

Ver. 14. The Indignation of the Lord shall be known toward his Enemies.

Jer. xlvi. 10. This is the Day of the Lord God of Hofts, a Day of Vengeance, that he may avenge him of his Adverfaries.

Nah. i. 2. The Lord will take Vengeance on his Adverfaries, he referveth Wrath for his Enemies.

Ver. 8. Darkness shall pursue his Enemies.

Heb. x. 27. Fiery Indignation fhall devour the Adverfaries, Ver. 13. 127. Deliverance from Enmity against God. Rom. v. to. When we were Enemies we were reconciled by the Death of his Son.

Col. i. 21. You who were Enemies in your Minds by wicked Works, hath he reconciled.

Wicked.

128. God's Threatnings against the Wicked. Exod. xxiii. 7. I will not justify the Wicked, Nah. 1. 3. The Lord will not acquit the Wicked. Deut. xxviii. 20. The Lord fhall fend upon thee Curfing, Vexation, and Rebuke, in all that thou settest thine Hand unto for to do; until thou be deftroyed, and until thou perifh quickly; because of the Wickedness of thy Doings whereby thou haft forfaken me.
