2. Baptifm after Chrift's Refurrection. Matt. xxviii. 18. 19. All Power is given unto me in Heaven, and in Earth. Go ye therefore and teach all Nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Ver. 20. Teaching them to obferve all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you alway even unto the End of the World.

Mar. xvi. 16. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.

John iii. 5. Jefus faid, except a Man be born of Water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.

Acts ii. 38. Peter faid, repent and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jefus Chrift, for the Remiffion of Sins.

Ver. 41. They that gladly received his Word, were baptized.

viii. 12. When those who had been deceived by Simon Magus believed Philip preaching the things concerning the Kingdom of God, and the Name of Jefus Chrift, they were baptized, both Men and Women.

Ver. 13. Simon believed alfo and was

Acts viii. 36. The Eunuch faid to Philip, here is Water, what hindereth me to be baptized,

Ver. 37. Philip faid if thou believeft with all thine Heart thou mayeft. And he answered and faid, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Ver. 38. And they went both down into the Water, and Philip baptized him.

x. 47. Peter faid can any Man forbid Water, that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost.

Ver. 48. And he commanded them to be baptized in the Name of the Lord.

Rom. vi. 3. As many of us as were baptized into Jefus Chrift, were baptized i. to his Death.

Ver. 4. Therefore we are buried with him by Baptifm into Death, that like as Chrift was raifed up from the Dead, by the Glory of the Father, even fo we alfo fhould walk in newness of Life.

Ver. 17. Chrift fent him not to baptize but to preach the Gofpel. xii. 13. By one Spirit we are all baptized into one Body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, bond or free.

Heb. vi. 1 2. Baptifin is one of the Principles of the Doctrine of Christ, along with the Refurrection of the Dead, and eternal Judg

ment.

Ver. 21. The like Figure whereunto Baptifm doth now fave us (not the putting away the Filth of the Flesh, but the Anfwer of a good Confcience toward God,) by the Refurrection of Jefus Chrift.

The Lord's Supper.

See The Pafover inflituted to the Jews, Exod. Ch. 11. To be eaten by all of them, even by fome that were unclean.

Numb. ix. 6. to 11. And was eaten by fome fuch.

2 Chron. 30:

I Cor. v. 7. Chrift our Paffover is facrificed for us, therefore let us keep the Feast.

3. The inftitution of the Lord's Supper. Matt. xxvi. 26. As Jefus and his Difciples were eating the Paffover, Jefus took Bread and bleffed it and brake it, and gave it to the Difciples and faid, take eat, this is my Body. Luke 22, 19. Which is given for you, this do in Remembrance of me.

Ver. 27. And he took the Cup and gave Thanks, and gave it to them faying, drink ye all of it.

Ver. 28. For this is my Blood of the New Teftament, which is fhed for the Remillion of Sins.

Ver. 29. But I fay unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this Fruit of the Vine, until that Day, when I drink it new with you in my Father's Kingdom. See the parallel Places. Mar. 14. 22. to 25. Luke 22. 14. to 21.

Saint Paul's Account of the Lord's Supper i‹. 1 Cor. xi. 23. I have received of the Lord, that which alfo I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jefus, the fame Night in which he was betrayed took Bread.

Ver. 24. And when he had given Thanks, he brake it, and faid, take eat, this is my Body which is broken for you, this do in Remeinbrance of me.

1 Cor. xi. 25. After the fame Manner alfo he took the Cup when he had fupped, faying, this Cup is the New Teftament in my Blood, this do ye as oft as ye drink it in Remembrance of me

Ver. 26. For as oft as ye eat this Bread and drink this Cup, ye do fhew the Lord's Death till he come.

4. It is to be received frequently. Acts ii. 42. The primitive Chriftians continued ftedfafly in the Apoftles Doctrine and Fellowship, and in Breaking of Bread and Prayers."

xx. 7. On the first Day of the Week, when the Difciples came togeVer. 11. gether to break Bread, Paul preached unto them. 5. It is to be received with fuitable Preparation. I Cor. v. 7. Purge out the old Leaven, that ye may be a new Lump as ye are are unleavened, for even Chrift our Paffover is facrificed for us.

1 Cor.v. 8.Therefore let us keep the Feaft, not with the old Leaven, neither with the leaven of Malice and Wickedness, but with the unleavened Bread of Sincerity and Truth.

x. 3. Our Fathers did all eat the fame fpiritual Meat.

Ver. 4. And did all drink the fame fpiritual drink, (for they drank of that fpiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Chrift.)

1 Cor. x. 5. With many of them God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the Wildernefs.

Ver. 6. Thefe Things were our Examples, to the Intent we should not luft after evil Things as they lufted.

Ver. 7. Neither be ye Idolaters as fome of them were.

Ver. 8. Neither let us commit Fornication, as fome of them did. Ver. 9. Neither let us tempt Chrift, as fome of them tempted. Ver. 10. Neither murmur, as fome of them murmured.

Ver. 14. Flee from Idolatry.

Ver. 16. The Cup of Bleffing which we blefs, is it not the Communion of the Blood of Chrift? the Bread which we break is it not the Communion of the Body of Chrift?

Ver. 17. For we being many are one Bread, and one Body, for we are all Partakers of that one Bread.

Ver. zo. The things which the Gentiles Sacrifice, they facrifice to Devils and not to God, and I would not that ye should have Fellowship with Devils.

Ver. 21. Ye cannot drink the Cup of the Lord, and the Cup of Devils, ye cannot be Partakers of the Lord's Table, and of the Table of Devils.

Ver. 31. Whether ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the Glory of God.

Ver. 32. Give none Offence, to Jews nor to Gentiles, nor to the Church of God.

xi. 27. Whosoever fhall eat this Bread, and drink this Cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the Body and Blood of the Lord.

I Cor. xi. 28. But let a Man examine himself, and fo let him eat of that Bread, and drink of that Cup.

Ver. 29. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh Damnation to himself, not difcerning the Lord's Body. See Abuses of this Ordinance committed by the Corinthians reproved and threatened in this Ch. from Ver. 17. to 23. and from Ver. 30. to 32. See Mal. 1. 7. The Wicked fay the Table of the Lord is contemptible.

N. B. The Preparation required to the acceptable receiving the Lord's Supper, are those fame Qualifications that are required in acceptable Prayer, which fee at large in the Chap. upon Prayer. The Sins for which Men ought to be excluded from this Ordinance, are the fame Sins perfifted in, for which the facred Scriptures allow that they

fhould

fhould be excluded from Chriftian Society, and declare that fuch fhall be excluded out of the Kingdom of Heaven; which fee in the various Characters of Sinners, and Threats against them. Also see Perfons that cannot enter into the Kingdom of God, and Perfons that shall be caft into the Lake of Fire.

• Holy Ghoft.

HE Spirit's Influences upon the material and animal Creation.
Gen. i. 2. The Spirit of God moved upon the Face of the

Job xxvi. 13. By his Spirit he hath garnished the Heavens.

xxxii. 8. There is a Spirit in Man, and the Inspiration of the Almighty giveth Understanding.

xxxiii. 4. The Spirit of God hath made me.

xxxiv. 14. If he gather unto himfelf his Spirit and his Breath, all Flesh shall perish together.

Pf. civ. 30. Thou fendeft forth thy Spirit, they are created.

2. The Spirit's Influences upon the Minds of Mankind. Upon the Prophets. Numb. xi. 25. The Spirit refted upon the feventy Elders, and they prophefied.

Ver. 26. The Spirit of the Lord refted upon Edad and Medad, and they prophefied.

Ver. 29. Mofes faid, would to God, that all the Lord's People were Prophets, and that the Lord would put his Spirit upon them.

Ver. 30. For mine Eyes have feen thy Salvation.

Acts i. 16. This Scripture muft needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the Mouth of David, fpake concerning Judas.

xi. 28. Agabus fignified by the Spirit, that there fhould be a great Dearth which came to pafs in the Days of Claudius Cæfar.

xxi. 11. Agabus faid, thus faith the Spirit, fo fhall the Jews at Jerufalem bind the Man that owneth this Girdle,

xxviii. 25. Well fpake the Holy Ghoft by Ifaias the Prophet.

1 Tim. iv. 1. The Spirit fpeaketh exprefly that in the latter Days fome fhall depart from the Faith.

Ifa. ix. 8. The Holy Ghoft thus fignifying, that the Way into the Holieft, was not yet made manifeft.

1 Pet. i. 10. Of which Salvation the Prophets enquired and searched diligently who prophefied of the Grace that fhould come unto you. Ver. 11. Searching diligently what, or what manner of Time the Spirit of Chrift which was in them did fignify when it testified beforehand the Sufferings of Chrift, and the Glory that should follow.

1 Pet. i. 12. Who preached the Gospel with the Holy Ghost, fent down from Heaven.

Ver. 20. That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghoft. Luke i. 35. The Holy Ghoft fhall come upon thee, and the Power of the highest shall overshadow thee, therefore also, that Holy thing, that fhall be born of thee fhall be called the Son of God.

4. Endowments of his Mind. Ifa. xi. 2. The Spirit of the Lord God hall reft upon him, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spi
