5-That

power is prayer;

which soars on high

[ocr errors]

Through Jesus to the throne,

And moves the hand which moves the world,
To bring salvation down.

Ezek. xxxiv. 23.

1-0 gracious Shepherd! bind us
With cords of love to Thee,

And evermore remind us

How mercy set us free.

O may Thy Holy Spirit
Set this before our eyes,
That we Thy death and merit
Above all else may prize.

2-We are of our salvation

Assured through Thy love ;
Yet Oh! on each occasion
How faithless do we prove!
Thou hast our sins forgiven,-
Then leaving all behind,
We would press on to heaven,
Bearing the prize in mind.

7.6.

3-Grant us henceforth, dear Saviour,
While in this vale of tears,

To look to Thee and never
Give way to anxious fears.
Thou, Lord, wilt not forsake us,
Though we are oft to blame;
Oh! let Thy love then make us
Hold fast Thy faith and name.

1 John i. 7.

C.M.

1-Walk in the light! so shalt thou know

That fellowship of love,

His Spirit only can bestow

Who reigns in light above.

2-Walk in the light! and thou shalt find
Thy heart made truly His,

Who dwells in cloudless light enshrined,
In whom no darkness is.

3—Walk in the light! and sin abhorr'd Shall ne'er defile again;

The blood of Jesus Christ the Lord

Shall cleanse from every sin.

4-Walk in the light! and e'en the tomb
No fearful shade shall wear;
Glory shall chase away its gloom,
For Christ hath conquer'd there.

5--Walk in the light! and thou shalt see
Thy path, tho' thorny, bright,
For God by grace shall dwell in thee,
And God Himself is light.

1 Peter ii. 21, 22, 23.

C.M.

1-What grace, O Lord, and beauty shone Around Thy steps below!

What patient love was seen in all
Thy life and death of woe!

2-For ever on Thy burden'd heart
A weight of sorrow hung;
Yet no ungentle murmuring word
Escap'd Thy silent tongue.

3-Thy foes might hate, despise, revile, Thy friends unfaithful prove ; Unwearied in forgiveness still,

Thy heart could only love.

80

4-Oh! give us hearts to love like Thee,-
Like Thee, O Lord, to grieve

Far more for other's sins, than all
The wrongs that we receive.

5-One with Thyself, may every eye
In us, Thy brethren, see

That gentleness and grace that spring
From union, Lord, with Thee.

[blocks in formation]

1-Jesus, Thy name I love,

All other names above,

Jesus my Lord!

Oh! Thou art all to me,

Nothing to please I see,

Nothing apart from Thee,
Jesus my Lord!

2-Thou, blessed Son of God,

Hast bought me with Thy blood,
Jesus my Lord!

Oh! how great is Thy love,

All other loves above,

Love that I daily prove,

Jesus my Lord!

81

3-When unto Thee I flee,
Thou wilt my refuge be,

Jesus my Lord!

What need I now to fear,

What earthly grief or care,

Since Thou art ever near?

Jesus my Lord!

4-Soon Thou wilt come again!
I shall be happy then,
Jesus my Lord!

Then Thine own face I'll see,
Then I shall like Thee be,

Then evermore with Thee,

Jesus my Lord!

[blocks in formation]

1-There is a morning star, my soul,

There is a morning star;

"Twill soon be near and bright, tho' now

It seems so dim and far.

And when time's stars have come and gone,
And every mist of earth has flown,

That better star shall rise,

On this world's clouded skies,

To shine for ever.
