[For Doctrines in Rhyme, &c. see Appendix.]

6. LESSONS FROM THE DOCTRINES. From these doctrines we learn,

(1, 2.) That we should always be ready and waiting for death and judgment.

(3, 4.) That we should glorify God, both in our bodies and in our spirits which are his.

(5.) That we should never repine at our sufferings or trials in this world.

(6, 7.) That we should make Christ our friend, who is now our witness, and will soon be our judge.

[For collateral Lessons and Inferences, see Appendix.]

7. APPLICATION OF THE LESSONS. For what should we be always ready and waiting? (1,2.) In what should we glorify God? (3, 4.)

At what should we never repine? (5.)
Whom should we make our friend? (6, 7.)

8. DEVOTIONAL EXERCISE FROM THE ANSWER. Adoration. Thou hast appointed a day in the which thou wilt, by Jesus Christ, thy Son and our Saviour, judge both the living and the dead. At the last day he shall suddenly and unexpectedly come to judge the world. The trumpet shall be sounded by the arch-angel, the living shall be changed, the dead shall be raised, the saints shall ascend to meet Christ in the air; who, by thy appointment, shall come from heaven in great glory, with his holy angels, to judge all mankind.

9. DEVOTIONAL EXERCISE FROM THE LESSONS. O Lord, convince us of our mortality, and enable us to be. (1, 2.) always ready, waiting for death and for judgment. May we be enabled to (3, 4.) glorify thee in our bodies and in our spirits, which are thine; never (5.) repining at our sufferings or trials in this world; but, (6, 7.) having made Christ Jesus our friend, may we, by the constant exercise of a living faith, submit ourselves to his care and keeping, who is now our witness, and will soon be our judge.
