the Sacred Writings. Such a comparison will not only lead to a careful perusal of the latter; but it will enhance, in the estimation of the serious inquirer, the value of the former: it will, under the blessing of God, not only prove a means of fixing his attention upon the momentous truths which the Word of God contains, but of commending the Liturgy of our National Church to his reception, in a no less endearing aspect, than as the faithful handmaid of the Holy Scriptures.

Let him search' these: and, in searching them, if he would 'in such wise read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of God's holy Word, he may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which is given him in his Saviour Jesus Christ';' it will be profitable to apply himself to Prayer. Possibly, when dwelling upon any particular point of Faith or Duty, some of the Prayers, which are compiled in this Volume, may assist his Devotions!

Trusting that it may, indeed, be of such avail, to many who shall bestow on it a perusal, the Author would now leave the present work in the hands of his Fellow-Christians, with the benedictory petition:

"The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the "knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus "Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Al"mighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, "be amongst you, and remain with you always. "Amen."
