Q. Where do you find the fulfilment of this prophecy?

A. The birth of Jesus was on this wise: When as His mother, Mary, was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying, Behold, a Virgin shall be with Child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which, being interpreted, is, God with us.-Matt. i. 18, 22, 23.

CHAPTER IX.

Q. What prophecy, relative to the Messiah, is contained in the ninth chapter?

A. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. v. 2. Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first He lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond. Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.-v. 1.

Q. Show the fulfilment of this remarkable pro`phecy?

A. Jesus leaving Nazareth, came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea-coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the Prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: the people which sat in darkness, saw great light; and to them which sat

in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.-Matt. iv. 13, 14, 15, 16.

Q. What is the next prophecy of Christ in this Chapter?

A. Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.-v. 6. Of the increase of His Government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth even for ever.v. 7. The Angel said unto the Shepherds, Unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour.-Luke ii. 11. Pilate said unto Jesus, Art Thou a King, then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest (truly) that I am a King. To this end was I born, &c.-John xviii. 37. My kingdom is not of this world.-v. 36. The blind and the lame came to Him and He healed them. And when the Chief Priests and Scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, they were sore displeased.-Matt. xxi. 14, 15. Many believed in His name when they saw the miracles which He did.-John ii. 23. Waxed strong in Spirit, filled with Wisdom.—Luke ii. 40.

CHAPTER XI.

Q. What prophecy of the Messiah does this Eleventh Chapter contain?

A. There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch out of his roots. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of

Counsel and Might, the Spirit of Knowledge and of the Fear of the Lord. v. 3, 4, 5.

Q. Shew the fulfilment of this prophecy?

A. Paul, in the Acts, says, God said I have found David, the son of Jesse; of this man's seed hath God, according to His promise, raised unto Israel, a Saviour, Jesus.-Acts xiii. 22, 23. And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and, lo! the heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him.Matt. iii. 16. For He (Christ) whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto Him.-John iii. 34. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost, and with power; who went about, doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the Devil; for God was with Him.--Acts x. 38.

Q. Does this chapter contain any prophecy of the conversion of the Genliles?

A. In that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek.-v. 10.

Q. Is this prophecy cited in the New Testament? A. St. Paul says, Again Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and He that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in Him shall the Gentiles trust.

CHAPTER XII.

Q. Does the twelfth chapter contain any allusion to salvation through Christ?

A. With joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.-v. 3.

Q. Where is this illustrated in the New Testament?

A. Jesus answered and said unto her, (the woman of Samaria) Whosoever drinketh of the

water that I shall give him, shall never thirst: but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.— John iv. 13, 14.

CHAPTER XXV.

Q. What remarkable prophecy do we find in this Chapter of the Gospel Kingdom?

A. He will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death in victory, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces.-v. 7, 8.

Q. What is meant by the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations? A. Their ignorance of God, and the true Religion. The people which sat in darkness saw great light.-Matt. vi. 16.

Q. Where is the accomplishment of that prophecy, that he will swallow up Death in Victory?

A. St. Paul says, When this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in Victory.-1 Cor. xv. 54.

Q. Where is the prophecy, that God will wipe away tears from off all faces, cited in the New Testament?

A. In the Revelations, St. John says, I saw a new heaven, and a new earth; and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying; neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.-Rev. xxi. 1, 4.
