CHAPTERS I.-V.

Q. What remarkable prophecy do you find in the fifth Chapter which is applicable to the house of Israel?

A. My well-beloved hath a vineyard, and He fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a wine press therein; and He looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down.-v. 1, 2, 5.

Q. To whom does this parable apply?

A. The vineyard of the Lord of Hosts is the House of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant; and He looked for judgment, but, behold oppression.-v. 9.

Q. Is this parable adopted in the New Testament?

A. Jesus said to the Chief Priests and Elders, There was a certain householder which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a wine press in it, and built a tower. And when the time of fruit drew near, He sent His servants to the husbandmen that they might receive the fruits of it. And the husbandmen beat one, and stoned another. Last of all He sent His Son; and they cast Him out of the vineyard and slew Him. Therefore I say unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.-Matt. xxi. 33, 34, 35, 37, 39, 43.

Q. Where do you find the accomplishment of this prophecy in the New Testament?

A. Though He had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on Him.
