Q. Is there any other prediction relative to the Messiah?

A. He shall speak peace unto the heathen: and His dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth. -v. 10.

Q. Can you shew the accomplishment of this in the New Testament?

A. The Angel said unto them, Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people: For unto you is born this day, a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. The heavenly host said, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth Peace, Good Will towards men.-Luke ii. 10, 11, 13, 14.

CHAPTER XI.

Q. Does this chapter prophetically describe the rejection of Christ by the Jews, and the small value they set upon Him?

A. If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said unto me, Cast it unto the potter; a goodly price that I was priced at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord. -v. 12, 13.

Q. How was this prediction fulfilled in the New Testament?

A. Then one of the twelve; called Judas Iscariot, went unto the Chief Priests, and said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver Him unto you? and they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.-Matt. xxvi. 14, 15. Judas cast

down the pieces of silver in the temple. And the Chief Priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. Wherefore that field was called The field of blood unto this day. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy (by Zechariah) the Prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value, and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.-Matt. xxvii. 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

CHAPTER XII.

Q. Does this chapter prophetically allude to the insults with which the Jews were to prosecute their Messiah even after death?

A. They shall look upon Me whom they have pierced. v. 10.

Q. Shew the fulfilment of this prophecy.

A. One of the soldiers pierced His side, and forthwith came thereout blood and water. For these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled, They shall look on Him whom they pierced-John xix. 34. 36, 37.

CHAPTER XIII.

Q. In this chapter, is there any allusion to the purifying of sins by the blood of Christ?

A. In that day there shall be a fountain opened

to the house of David, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.-v. 1.

Q. Where is this promise fulfilled in the Gospel?

A. If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood - of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin.-1 John i. 7.

Q. Is there any prophecy in this chapter, which, at the same time that it points to the sufferings which were to be inflicted on the human nature of Christ, describes his equality to God?

A. Awake, O sword, against my Shepherd, and against the Man that is my fellow (my equal) saith the Lord of Hosts: smite the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.—v. 7.

Q. Can you prove from the New Testament that this is applicable to Christ?

A. Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.-Matt. xxvi. 31.

CHAPTER XIV.

Q. Does this chapter contain a prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem?

A. Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled. v. 1, 2. And the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Q. Is this prophecy repeated in the New Testament, and by whom?

4. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. Matt. xxiii. 37, 38. His Disciples came to Him for to shew Him the buildings of the temple: Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? Verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.-Matt. xxiv. 1, 2. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Matt. xxiv. 22. See Blayney's Jeremiah Chape xiv. And His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jeru salem on the east, &c. v. 4. The allusion hère appears to be first, to the coming of Christ in the destruction of Jerusalem; and in the second sense, to His coming at the day of judgment. The whole seems to have been prophetically reverted to by our Saviour in His description of the end of things. Ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains.-Matt. xxiv. Let them which be in Judæa flee into the mountains.-Matt. xxiv. 16. The Lord my God shall come, and all the Saints with Thee.-v. 5. Then shall appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven; and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And He shall send His Angels with a great sound of a trumpet.Matt. xxiv. 30, 31. When the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy Angels with Him. Matt. xxv. 31. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark.v. 6. But it shall be one day which shall be known of the Lord, not day nor night, &e. This

probably alludes to the uncertainty of that day, to which our Saviour alludes, when He says, But of that day and hour knoweth no man; no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.-Matt. xxiv. 36. And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem, &c.-v. 8. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living -water. St. John vii. 30. And the Lord shall be King over all the earth; in that day there shall be one Lord, and His name one.-v. 6.-The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever.-Rev. xi. 15. He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end.-Luke i. 33. Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one Shepherd.-John x. 16.

MALACHI.-B. C. 397.

In the time of Nehemiah.

CHAPTER 1.

Q. Does this chapter contain any prophecy of the spreading of true Religion, or the Worship of the One God, among the Gentiles?

A. From the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering :: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the Lord of Hosts.-v. 11.
