THE HISTORY OF JACOB CONSIDERED

And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, the days of the years of

my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and

evil have the days of the years of my life been. - GENESIS

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the

prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one

But thou, when thou art bidden, go and sit down in

the lowest room, that when he that bade thee cometh,

he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher; then shalt

thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat

with thee: for whosoever exalteth himself, shall be abased;

and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. - LUKE

Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye

shall find rest unto your souls. - MATTHEW xi. 29.

And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people,

Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye

so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness

we had made this man to walk? - Acts iii. 12.

And I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift

up my face to thee, my God: - for our iniquities are

increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto

Despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbear-

ance, and long-suffering,
not knowing that the

goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? - ROMANS

But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour,

to slay him with guile; - thou shalt take him from my

altar, that he may die. - Exodus xxi. 14.
