THE WAY TO ATTAIN THE love of god.

"THOU shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
with all thy soul, and with all thy strength. This is the
first and great commandment." That is, this is the foun-
dation of all, and the way to keep all the rest. Begin
with this;-set thyself earnestly to the practice of it, O
Christian soul; say unto God, and that earnestly and fre-
quently, "I will love thee, O Lord, my strength; Oh!
knit my heart unto thee, that I may fear thy name.' Ac-
custom thyself to think often of His loving-kindness, in
giving thee "life, and being, and all things." Of his
making thee, not like a worm, or like the beasts that
perish, but a reasonable creature, a man, made in his
image, and capable of knowing and enjoying him for
ever. Say, therefore, "O merciful Creator, I owe my-
self and all I have to thy bountiful goodness: what shall
