therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instrument, all the days of our life, in the house of the Lord, Isa. xxxviii. 17, 19, 20. In this receiving, and possessing, the everlasting covenant double of the Father's hand in God, by, in, and through the Son, Jesus Christ, our head, husband, and all: by and in power, and blessing of the Holy Ghost, in and by the truth, the Holy Scriptures; we enjoy the right knowledge of the following portions of scripture, which in eternity the Father in God, and Gthe odhead, said to the Son, our head, husband, ransom, and all, namely, "As for thee, also by the blood of thy covenant, I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit, wherein is no water." And also what the Father said to the Holy Ghost, in the everlasting covecovenant of life and peace, for time salvation of the election, calling, and spiritual begetting, life infusing, rerenewing, and sanctification of all the elect, by the Spirit and blessing; namely, deliver him, that is Adam, and all his offspring, my elect, with Eve, from going down to the pit; "I have found a ransom." Job xxxiii. 24. And in the same blessings, we know, and enjoy with all saints, what the Holy Ghost says by Isaiah, and Paul, of Christ's original, and time righteousness, as one ransom; and all being imputed mystically in eternity and time, unto all the election, by the Father, "unto justification of life;" even before that life, the lifegiving, living pure waters, were infused, by and through the world, in spiritual begetting, inabiding, renewing, regenerating, sanctifying life, "wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption," to eternal redemption. Behold it is in this given knowledge of the Holy Ghost, and the Father, and Christ, one God, the Godhead, and a sight of his everlasting covenant, that being open to us, his watchmen, pastors, editors, and public witnesses, that we are

enabled in the Spirit, and blessing, that is in the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of life, and peace; grace, sanctifica tion, truth, faith, hope, love, wisdom, righteousness, justification, and all, who with the Father, and Christ is one covenant God, to call, say to each other, whilst Satan's, and deluded men's impure fire flames against us, and against our doctrines; "We are washed, sanctified, justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." Thus with pure water, we are enabled to quench the violence of the impure burning flaming fire of many deluded men this year, who are sending through the coasts of Zion their impure fire, and the smoke of their fire, to burden, and blind reprobates. And also intended if it were possible, to consume the doctrines of the eterposes, and actual sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth, in the Father's elect, the Son's bride, and the Zion of the Holy Ghost; "Heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ." Which impure fire is burning and flaming from deluded men's souls, hearts, lips, pens, publications, testifying, that the person of Christ Jesus, God the Son, is the elect's imputed sanctification. Nay they go so far in their delusions, some of them, as to take doctrinally the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of sanctification, to bear false witness against himself, by declaring, that 1 Cor. i. 30, is conclusive on the point. May God, if it be his pleasure, by these ministrations, quench the impure flaming fire of those deluded men; if it be his divine will in his working, enable them to see Jesus Christ, whose righteousness is imputed to us, his redeemed, for justification without works; exalted in glorified humanity, in all his meritorious ministerial communicative fulness, the Mediator, Intercessor, Advocate, propitiation for our sins, and great High Priest, praying the Father to sanctify the whole Zion, through his truth, saying

"Thy word is truth," See John xvli. 17, Amen. Whilst we beseech those impure, fire flaming, deluded men to consider, that the Zion of the Holy One, were eternally elected, and predestinated by the Father in Jesus Christ the Son, and chosen to salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. 2 Thess. ii. 13. Yes, verily," Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit unto obedience, and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ,' 1 Peter i. 2. How then can the person of Christ be the election's imputed sanctification. If those deluded men, by impure fire, being infused by the evil spirit, and by his fanning impure fire, they resist the Holy Ghost, and condemn the scriptures, in their confusion and fury, as they condemn our publications of scripture truths, herein manifested, as in all orthodox publications, ancient and modern. We advise them to read "Assembly's Catechism," and give up circulating their impure fire, and smoke of that fire, around the Zion of the Holy One." Indeed we intreat those men, in all christian charity, having no doubt but some of God's elect are among them, to take the doctrine of three particularly learned, inspired watchmen, pastors, editors, and public witnesses for God, in union with all others, namely, Paul, Silvanus and Timotheus, on the doctrine of the sanctification of the Spirit, in and to the Zion of God, upon whom was the imputed righteousness of Christ, for justification, without works, and justifying righteousness in God's sight. 1 Thess. i. 1, v. 2,

For there you will find three witnessess, one with us in prayers, and doctrines, flowing by and in the Holy One's will and working very liv. ing waters, or pure dotrines, saying, The very God of peace, sanctify you wholly. And we pray God your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be

preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." I say read, 1 Thess. v. 2, 3, and know that unto the end of the world, the sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth, as we hold and write shali continue, as the sure token and real evidence of our election, predestination, to glory and immortality, Rom. viii. 29, 30 Read ye also, we pray you for confirmation, Ephesians v. 25, 26, 27., as follows: " Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." This is pare water, to quench the violence of im pure fire. Heb. xi. 34.

A FRAGMENT.

GOD was a God to Adam before he fell; but to be a God to sinners, this is grace. He was a God to Adam in innocency, by virtue of the covenant of works; but he is not a God to any sinner but in a way of free grace. Now that was the covenant, I will be a God to thee and thy seed, Gen. xvii. 7. Abraham was a sinner, and a child of wrath by nature, as well as others; yet God was his God truly. For God to be a God to them that never sinned, there may be merit; but for God to be a God to those that have sinned, this is grace indeed! Angels are saved by works, sinners cannot be saved but by grace. That ever the Lord should condescend to engage in such a relation, as to give a sinner interest in him, and propriety in him, as his God, this is grace. They that do not think this is grace, they need not argument, but pity and prayer. Eph. i. 6; ii. 5, 8.

The Holy Ghost hath taught me thus,
That Jesus once was made a curse;
To save his chosen church from hell,
Of this my heart and tongue shall tell.

Since God the Spirit, to my heart,
Is pleased his matchless grace t' impart:
Jesus shall be my constant theme,
Who did my helpless soul redeem,

The honours of fair Zion's King,
My soul with all her pow'rs shall sing;
Who on the cross of Calv'ry died,
To save his own beloved bride.

He saw the state his church lay in,
Quite dead in trespasses and sin;
He left the realms of light and bliss,
Charg'd with her guilt and wretchedness.

He lived a suff'ring life below,
And magnified God's holy law;
Which we poor sinners all had broke,
And thus sustain'd its direful stroke.

The sins of all God's saints were laid,
Upon his dear devoted head:
He stood as one accurs'd of God,
O'erwhelm'd in wrath, and tears, and blood.

So thus redemption's work was done,
Finish'd complete, by God the Son;
He, in our nature bled and died,
And won the vict❜ry for his bride.

And now he lives to intercede,
For those, for whom he once did bleed;
And still he hears the sad complaints,
Of all his poor dejected saints.

He hears their cries, he sees their tears,
He soothes their pain, and dries their fears;
He'll ever comfort and protect,
His chosen ones, his own elect.

This is the theme on which I dwell,
How Christ my king hath conquered hell
I soon shall join with yonder throng,
To praise him in a nobler song.
Just like the pen of those who write,
My tongue shall tell with sweet delight;
The glories of my Saviour's grace,
Until I see his smiling face.

And when with all the saints I rise,
To chaunt these notes above the skies;
In louder, sweeter, harmony,

I'll hymn the glorious One in Three.

THE REQUEST.

LORD of the universe, give ear, I cry,
O bless me with thy mercy, or I die
Teach me to rest on thee, the only place,
Vouchsafe to hear, and grant benignant grace.

Angels obey thee, and may I obey,
They are the spirits of eternal day :
They wing immediate, when thou dost com-
mand,

And watch the motions of thy sov'reign hand.

May I thus watch, and thus obey thy will, And know indeed 'tis strength in standing still;

Shun human pow'r, and rest on thee alone, And hail the beamings from th' eternal throne.

Thence glory's rays proceed, from thence they shine,

From thence proceeds all happiness divine: To have my Saviour, will impart delight, And dissipate the deepest shades of night.

May I behold his beauty far above

All other beauties; here I'd wish to rove, And feast to fulness, an immense reward; What blessedness proceeds from Christ my Lord.

And when the monster death appears in view,

My Jesus be then, present with me too;
Give me to feel love's everlasting arms,
And shield me from temptations and alarms.

Another year has like a silent stream Glided away, and awful solemn thought, Borne on its surface thousands of our race To realms of bliss, or deathless, dark despair. "Tis greatly wise to talk with our past hours,"

"And ask them, what report they bore to God."

Another year has past, with all its scenes
Of manifested mercy, sovereign care,
Unbounded goodness, rich forgiving love,
Justly demanding that our hearts should glow
With holy rapture, fervent gratitude,
Complete surrender, and untiring zeal.
And do we thus requite spontaneous love,
And does our gratitude proportion bear,
To love like his who form'd us from the dust,
Who calls us by almighty matchless grace
To know our vileness and to fly to Christ,
Alas, alas, the gloomy scene revived,
Shews we are monsters of ingratitude.

ONESIMUS.

He, he alone hath borne the same, Jesus the Saviour is his name.

The sinner's guilt on him was laid,
When on the cross he bowed his head;
And for the sufferings thus endured,
A crown of glory he secured.

He, who the world's foundations laid, Was lower than the angels made; Admire my soul the wondrous plan, He tasted death for every man.

He bore the load of guilt and sin,
Of all who come to God by him;
For none but these he tasted death,
And this is what the scripture saith.

If 'twere not thus, how could it be,
The travail of his soul he 'd see?
And we 're assured he 'll safely keep,
Those who are numbered 'mongst his sheep.

Redemption's price for them was paid,
As Christ himself hath plainly said:
""Tis for my sheep my life's laid down,"
For them 's reserv'd a starry crown.

To men of every name and grade,
The Saviour's grace is thus display'd;
And by his death the gospel plan,
Is preach'd to every fallen man.

"Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business ?"-Luke ii. 49.

WITHOUT giving any introduction to the subject in hand, as now revolving in my mind, I will bring you immediately to the apparent, (to me at least) leading articles, or proposi tions of the text in hand.

First, Notice the firm of the business here implied.

Secondly, The business itself. Thirdly, The persons or party principally designed and appointed to carry out and carry on, and faithfully execute the whole concern of the business here implied.

All equally concerned about this business; although my house be not so with God, yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and sure, for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow. All equally interested in this business; "and all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified glorified in them." Howbeit, when he the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak, and he will shew you things to come.” All equally alike bound to support, and honourabiy keep up this business, and faithfully fulfil every part and covenant engagement therein contained, My covenant I will not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips." Thus God the Father is the chief or first in this wonderful con. cern, whose business it is to see that all is rightly ordered and punctually carried on, and faithfully completed, according to his own eternal purpose, plan and grace, given to us in Christ Jesus, before the world began: "Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according
