knowledge, O Lord, that our strifes and divisions, misuse of thy gifts, and forgetfulness of thy manifold mercies, we have justly deserved punishment. We have sinned; we have grievously sinned against thee, yet knowing that thou art full of compassion, we beseech thee to pardon the offences of thy people, to relieve the poor and the needy in their necessities, and to give us grace to receive thy dispensations, whether of judgment or mercy, with entire submission to thy will; endeavouring to abate thy displeasure by repentance, and shewing forth forth our sense of thy goodness, by faithfully keeping the commandments. Of ourselves we are unable either to will or to do that which is acceptable in thy 'sight. We therefore pray thee so to open our hearts by the influence of thy Good Spirit, that shewing compassion and mercy each man to his neighbour, and bearing the burdens one of another, we may obtain of thy favour the supply of our wants, and with hearts knit together in brotherly love, may partake of thy bounties in peace and contentment, to the honour and praise of thy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen."

Such, my beloved hearers, on the sabbath is the national prayer, in Britannia's humiliation before God, which I believe, as the scripture declares, will be graciously answered.

Let us again, to that end, pray to God, and sing praise, a part of king David's 132nd psalm, in Dr. Watt's form, of A Church Established, as follows verse the 4th.

Arise, O King of grace! Arise,
And enter to thy rest;

Lo! thy church waits with longing eyes,
Thus to be own'd and bless.

Enter with all thy glorious train,
Thy Spirit and thy word;

All that the ark did once contain,
Could no such grace afford.

There, Mighty God, accept our vows,
Here let thy praise be spread;

Bless the provisions of thy house, And fill thy poor with bread.

Blessed be God, the text he has given us, for the substance, form and order of my sermon, for this day of Britannia's national humiliation, is as follows, **O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God, for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. Take with you words, and turn to the Lord, say unto Him, take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips." Hosea xiv. 1, 2.

First. From the text I am to declare the national fall, and the national iniquity of God's Israel of old; proving that Britannia, God's Israel, in the present time, has fallen nationally, and that her iniquity nationally, is like the iniquity of the Israel of old.

Secondly. Describe the right form and order of returning unto the Lord God, in his willing and doing, to obtain his manifested favour, and pardon of our iniquity, and to obtain from Him all the blessings we nationally and individually need for our comfort.

Thirdly and lastly. I am to testify and portray scripturally, the right form and order of Britannia's rendering the calves of her lips nationally to the Lord God, after receiving from him the blessings prayed for and promised.

First, then, I say, in union with all God's protestant public witnesses, every one, preaching and writing, or prophesying in sackcloth, that Britannia's fall nationally, was joining affinity with the man of sin, the Pontiff of Rome, and his popish sovereigns, princes and peoples, even as of old King Jehoshaphat and his senate joined affinity with the man of sin, Ahab, the idolatrous, blasphemous, murderous king, and his powers; see 2 Chron. xviii. 1, 2, 3.; so breaking the national oath

and vow to God, as a christian protestant nation, and God's fort-royal of national protestantism, exalted in his favour the greatest in the scale of nations; yes, Britannia's righteousness in God's favour exalted her in the divine scale, which in the struggle of all nations, and in the terrific procedure of the tyrant Buonaparte was universally declared; as we read in Prov. xiv. 34. The fall of Bri

the

tannia, we testify, commenced in many of her exalted, dignified members, ecclesiastics and seculars, in senatorial union, by what they called expediency, when a compulsary act was put upon George IV., Catholic Relief Bill, A. D. 1829. And before and after he signed that act, he was pained in his heart and soul, and wounded in his spirit! I say, that was the national fall of protestant Britannia, after rejecting the petitions and remonstrances of thousands of God-fearing loyal protestants, spurning also the protest of that most noble protestant, his Royal Highness the Duke of York, which was, and is written in letters of gold. Oh, what a fall! yet God permitted it, after all warnings and alarms given! yes God gave the senate up to their own heart's lust. Psalm lxxxi. 12. And from the Pontiff of Rome, ecclesiastical and seculars of his idolatrous secret counsel, were received into the senate, with Mahometans or Socinians, mingling with God-fearing protestants, and the iniquity in the fall was manifest. Thus as Daniel and John foretold in the spirit of prophesy, the anti-protestant beast entered the senate, and began changing times and laws; that is of divine worship and good works. Thus oaths were changed for vows, -images let in, to stand before God the Son, even the Virgin Mary's effigy. And the Papists with Socinians, and all sorts of anti-protestants, increasing in Britannia's senate, was the making up the beast. Dan. vii. And he began to speak great words

against the Most High in the senate, labouring to wear out the saints of the Most High, thinking to change times and lands. And then behold in a great degree for our national sins, times and laws (God permitting) have been given into his hand; so that in the fall and iniquity, from the death of King George the IV., to the death of King William, who declared the

Protestant Established Church within

the United Kingdoms, called Great Britain, should be preserved inviolate. Yet alas, to the great distress of Britannia, such has not been the case. No, no, the protestant church is not Preserved; for in the reign of our present most gracious protestant sovereign, idols and popish abominations are, in opposition to her will, introduced, with popish and Socinian doctrines into some of our national protestant churches. Thus like Israel of old in her fall and national

iniquity, we have increased in iniquity, for now the times and laws are so changed, since the Socinians, the and other anti-protestants, gained dupes of Mahomet, aided by Papists, their endowment bill; the general desecration, profanation, and pollutions of the Sabbaths are seen. rael of old after they nationally fell Such were the iniquities of the Isfrom stedfastness in Bible protestantism. God said, "My sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the

wilderness to consume them," Ezek. found in God, and long-suffering, so xx. 13. Yet great forbearance was he sent to them ministerial warnings and alarms, as we sent to the senate of Great Britain. But all our Goddirected warnings and alarms, together with the voice of bishops and nobles, as protestants in the senate; or the voice and incessant labours for sabbath keeping of Sir A. Agnew and his companions, have not prevented the awful progress sabbath desecrations, profanations and pollutions from the Metropolis

of

into villages even around us. You know, my hearers, under my warnings and the warnings of the protestant clergy around us, we see to our grief some of our neighbours in full trade on the sabbath days, even like the railways. Alas, alas, the times and laws are changed in Great Britain, after the way of Rome,France, Spain, and other popish anti-scriptural nations. Yes, the moral law of God and his testimony is scoffed at. Thus the bands and cords of Britannia's society, from the senate to the palaces, down to cottages, and the companies of peoples on commons, and waste lands, are broken and cast away, so people pollute the Lord's sabbaths. And in addition to all this national iniquity, the grievous sin as is acknowledged, was the senate rejecting God's law and testimony against all protestant remonstrances and petitions, so helping the ungodly, as king Jehoshaphat and his senate acted of old, by adding sin to sin, so voting money out of

Britannia's national treasuries

to

Popish Maynooth, the Popish College; which monies, before Britannia's national fall and iniquity, was used for ornaments and arms against the Satanic, popish, idolatrous, blasphemous, murderous bands, and for teaching Bible protestantism. Therefore is wrath upon Britannia from before the Lord.

No wonder, therefore, that on this day of Britannia's national humiliation under God's rod and judgments, she should in confession of her sins to the Father, in and through the Son, the only Mediator, by and in the grace and teaching of the Holy Ghost, lament, and in grief confess in the national form of prayer before God, the misuse of our gifts; by voting the national treasures of gold and silver, with promises of more, and all other things needed; which is, to put destroying weapons into the hand of the man of sin, the beast, and the harlot, to destroy, and then

to be drunken with protestant Britannia's blood.

Alas, alas, no loyal, faithful, Godsent protestant witnesses could ever expect any thing less than the rod and national judgments of God for such awful national sins. The form of prayer and confessions are to God, namely, We have justly deserved punishment.

Now, I pray you, notice that God's judgments on the Israel of old for the same sins, committed by professed protestant Britannia, were destroying hail and frosts, in unusual times and seasons, to destroy vines and their fruits, as is noticed in destroying fruit, in the general form of prayer and confession for this day, as a chastened people. Moreover God gave up their cattle also to hail, as he gave up the cattle of their enemies in Egypt. Thus, Britannia, thou hast been visited by furious tempests, thunders, lightenings, hails and rains, shattering cities, especially the metropolis, breaking to pieces the embelwith the most strong buildings; and lishments of royal palaces and houses, floods of waters have rooted up foundations, sweeping away immense property, both, within and around the metropolis, as in all parts of the united kingdom; and our Colonies have not escaped the dreadful judg ments. Moreover God's furious rod and judgments have been, and is now, on this day of national humiliation, in the air and earth, so that many personages, who professed protes tantism, and favoured the beast in his papistical and Socinian deeds, have been killed by sudden deaths of putrefaction. See Rev. ii. 33, "Alas! Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days," Psalm lv. 23.

These are awful national records. And in addition to all aforesaid, by God's judgments, in the air and earth, murrain has entered the cattle,

80

cattle have died putrid, and

putridity is in the fruits of the earth, especially the potatoes, from royal parks, farms and lands, to the humble cottagers' gardens; and more especially in Ireland, were popish priests are allowed, in open idolatry, to provoke and blaspheme God, his name and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven, Rev. xiii. 6; by invoking the Virgin Mary, and saints, before God the Son, the one only mediator, and the Father in and = through the Son! So all papists, I Mahometans, Socinians, and anta= christians are opposed to the na=tional form of prayer and humiliation of this day of Britannia, all striving to trample protestant Britannia, and her God-given sabbath days, E Bible oaths, laws and ordinances, under their feet. See Dan. vii. 25. But what is all that to God's rod and judgments? Oh, Britannia, now consider your senatorial fall and iniquity, of which with myself a protestant witness, and all God's public witnesses, Rev. xi. 3, gave you warnings, all sounding alarms. But national sins have increased against the ordinances of water baptism and the Lord's Supper, which God scriptually directs to be used, See Mat. xxviii. 19, 20, not only in Great Britain, but all nations, with protestant preaching and prayers. See Acts ii. 42. Yet in this nation all is condemned, with all the doctrines and acts of the Protestant ancient Reformers, so that in the secret popish anti-protestant unions, the British sovereign's supremacy, in and under the sovereignty of God the Son, the King of kings, and King of nations, is denied, and, if possible, in opposition to God's word, See Prov. viii. 15, 16, that supremacy will be taken away. See Dan. vii. 27. Oh, ye senators, be ye watchful over our God-given most gracious protestant sovereign; the one only supreme member in Britannia, under divine head, Jehovah, Jesus Christ!

our

Oh! Britannia, let no man take thy crown. Rev. iii. 11. See ye, my hearers, and all my readers, the treachery of Rome, with France, Spain and Austria this day; remember the beast of the Pontiff of Rome, crowned, can act as a lamb, and as a dragon! Oh, forget not former days. His deeds are and will be fast as the railway carriages, and as terrific, if it is allowed, by all means to cast Britannia to the ground. "Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast for it is the number of a man; and his number is six hundred, three score and six." Rev. xiii. 18. He has been and is a growing beast. Dan. vii. 25. Therefore, before the final consumption of the beast with the man of sin, the Pontiff of Rome, and the harlot, mystery, Babylon, with the false prophet Mahomet, by protestant powers of God in Britannia, and in her protestant allies, about A. D. 1926-7, there will be anti-protestant deeds most perfidious, even as Paul by the Holy Ghost testified of Elymas in Rome, and from Rome in Britannia's senate, and in all high places, within the united kingdom, and in our colonies, and in all society to the lowest, and in armies and navies, and all foreign courts; thus we are called to watch and pray and fight for proofs. See Dan. vii. 25. So in the set time, as aforesaid, protestant judgment shall sit; and God's protestant united powers shall take away his dominion to consume and to destroy unto the end. Dan. vii. 26. Yet, know ye, that if Britannia still goes on in iniquity and falls again, after this rising, in all humility, confessing sins, and prayer for pardon of God, and all blessings! God can scatter us; and take Prussia, or any other nations, for his fort-royal of national protestantism, and leave us, like Samson of old, to be bound with fetters of brass, and to grind in the prison

house. Judges xvi. 21. Therefore in union with the Bishops of Canterbury and York, with all who are protestants, and especially public witnesses in the the senate; nobles and honourable ones, whose names and deeds in the protestant Church and State, are beloved by all loyal protestants, dissenters, from bishops and pastors and all, as by myself; I say to them, as to you my beloved protestant hearers assembled, (for I must publish my sermon) that there is another most awful national sin, premeditated by the beast, in the senate, in all papistical, Socinian subtlety and sophistry, after the working of Satan, see 2 Thess. ii. 9, and to record the sin on Britannia's statute book, that is, "That no murderer shall be put to death for his deeds." Alas! that act and deed of sin, if done, will bring God's curse upon us! Oh, may Britannia in the most exalted, dignified members read God's law, which the beast intends, if possible, to change, that is, "Whoso shedeth man's blood, by

man shall his blood be shed." Gen. ix. 6. If that law is changed, and the time of arrest and execution is changed in Britannia, it will be easy for the secret counsel in the bloody city, Rome, as you see pourtrayed in my hieroglyphics, to send secret, or open murderers, and consume Britannia in her highest members. They know how to smother heirs apparent to thrones, crowns, sceptres! and how to poison by fraud or force, or to pierce with daggers, and hide the blood of murdered innocents in the skirts of their robes. They know how to pay, give indulgence and absolution, and send murderers, nobles and Jesuits, with promises of protection, like those sent in King James' the first days, for destroying protestant monarchs and monarchy ! They have men of the spirit of the ancient Harrington, the perfidious Lord, and like vile Sir Edward

Digby; and they have their Guy Fawkes, Garnets and Parsons, with other murderous Jesuits, witness Macedonia and Great Britain of old. Well then, if the laws of death for murder is changed, where is the safety of our monarch and protestant What will a mingled monarchy? senate

to this national inquiry, who are now the sovereign's protestant body guards? We find protestant King Solomon had body guards by night, (God willing,) although God was his supreme divine guard; "Threescore valiant men, of the yes, valiant of Israel; they all held swords, being expert in war: every man had his sword upon his thigh, because of fear in the night." Cant. iii. 7, 8. Where now are those valiant protestants. In these days times and laws. Dan. vii. 25. O of senatorial mingling and changing Israel, protestant Britannia, God's Israel, thou has fallen by thine iniquity: return unto the Lord thy God.

This brings me to my second general head, to describe the right form and order of returning to the Lord God: and, that is, to abolish all anti-protestants, and destroy all images, in churches and cleanse the senate, by taking the Bible in God's blessing, for a directory, daily using the form of prayer God has recorded for us in our text, or as the present national form of prayer we have this day used, in all humility; and in this way of God's given form and order, we beseech Dr. Pusey and his bands, and all backsliders from the doctrines, laws and ordinances of our God, to return to pure protestantism; saying in the Holy Ghost, in his blessing of godly sorrow, repentance, faith, hope and love unto the Father, in and through the Son, the one only mediator, "Take away all iniquity. and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips," Hosea xiv. 1, 2; and God's promise is, "He will pardon and take away all iniquity, and receive us grac
