THE SECOND EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO

4

TIMOTHY.

CHAPTER I.

1 PAUL, an apos'tle of Jesus Chri'st by the will' of Go'd, according to the promise of life which is in Chri'st Je'sus, 2 To Tim'othy, 'my' de'arly belov'ed son': Gra'ce, mer'cy, 'and' pe'ace, from Go'd the Father, and Chri'st Je'sus our Lo'rd. I thank' Go'd, whom I serv'e from 'my' fo'refathers with pu're con'science, that without' ce'asing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and da'y; Grea'tly desiring to se'e thee, be'ing mindful of thy te'ars, that I may be filled with joy'; 5 When I call to remembrance the unfe'igned fa'ith that is in' thee, which dwelt first' in thy grand'mother Lo'is, and thy moth'er Euni'ce; and I am persua'ded that in the'e also. 6 Wherefore I put thee in remem'brance, that thou stir' up the gift of Go'd, which is in' thee by the putting on' of my hand's. 7 Fo'r Go'd hath not given us the spirit of fe'ar; but of pow'er, and of love, and of a sound' mi'nd. 8 Be not thou therefore asha'med of the tes'timony of our Lo'rd, nor of me' his pris'oner: but be thou parta'ker of the afflictions of the gospel, according to the power of Go'd; 9 Who hath sa'ved us, and called 'us' with an ho'ly calling, not according to our work's, but according to his own purpose and gra'ce, which was given us in Chri'st Je'sus befo're the world began' ; 10 But is now made mạnhfest by the appe'aring of our Sa'viour Je'ṣus Chri'st, who hath abolished death', and hath bro'ught life and immortal'ity to light' through the gospel : Whereunto' I'am appointed a pre'acher, and an apos'tle, and a teacher

of the Gen'tiles. 12 For the which cause I also suf'fer these things nevertheless' I am not ashamed; fo'r I know whom I have belie'ved, and am persua'ded that he' is able to keep that which I have commit'ted un'to him against that da'y. 13 Ho'ld fast' the fo'rm of sound' word's, which thou hast heard' of me, in fa'ith and lov'e which is in Chri'st Jesus. 14 That good' thing which was commit'ted un'to thee, ke'ep by the Holy Gho'st which dwell'eth in us. 15 This thou kno'west, that all they which are in A'sia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermog'enes. 16 The Lo'rd give mer'cy un'to the house of Onesiph'orus; fo'r he oft refresh'ed me, and was not asha'med of my cha'in: 17 But, when he was in Roʻme, he so'ught me out' ver'y dil'igently, and found me.' 18 The Lo'rd grant' un'to him that he may find mercy of the Lo'rd in that day and in how man'y things he ministered un'to me at Eph'esus, thou kno'west very well'.

CHAP. II. Thou' therefore, my son', be strong in the grace that is in Chri'st Je'sus. 2 And the things that thou hast heard' of me amon'g man'y wit'nesses, the sa'me commit' thou to faithful men, who shall be able to te'ach oth'ers also. 3 Thou therefore endu're ha'rdness, as a good' so'ldier of Jesus Chri'st. 4 No' man that wa'rreth entan'gleth himself' with the affairs of this'' life, that he may ple'ase him' who hath cho'sen him to be a so'ldier. 5 And if a man also stri've for mas'teries, yet' is he not crown'ed, except he stri've la'wfully. 6 The husbandman that la'boureth must be first' parta'ker of the fruits. Consid'er what I sa'y; and the Lo'rd give thee understan'ding in a'll things. Remember that Je'sus Christ, of the se'ed of Da'vid, was raised from the dead', acco'rding to my gos'pel : 9 Wherein' I suf'fer trouble, as an e'vil-do'er, 'e'ven' un'to bond's; but the word of Go'd is not' bound. 10 Therefore I endu're a'll things for the elect''s sa'kes, that they may also obtain the salva'tion which is in Chri'st Je'sus with eter'nal glo'ry. It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead' with him,' we shall also live with him: 12 If we suf'fer, we shall also re'ign with him: if we deny' 'him',' he' a'lso will deny' us': 13 If we' belie've not, yet' he' abi'deth fa'ithful; he can'not deny himself'. 14 Of these things put them' in remembrance, cha'rging them befo're the Lo'rd that they stri've not about' word's to no prof'it, but' to the

subverting of the hearers. 15 Stud'y to she'w thyself' approved un'to Go'd, a work'man that ne'edeth not to be asha'med, right'ly divi'ding the word of tru'th. 16 But shun' profa'ne 'and' va'in bab'blings; for they will increase un'to mo're ungodliness. 17 And their word' will e'at as doth a can'ker of whom is Hymene'us and Phile'tus; 18 Who concerning the tru'th have erred, sa'ying that the resurrection is past' alread'y; and overthro'w the faith of som'e. 19 Nevertheless' the founda'tion of Go'd stan'dẹth su're, having this se'al, The Lo'rd kno'weth them that are his'. And, Let every one that na'meth the na'me of Chri'st depa'rt from iniq'uity. 20 But in a grea't house there are not o'nly ves'sels of go'ld and of silver, but also of wood' and of earth'; and som'e to hon'our, and som'e to dis'honour. 21 If a man therefore purg'e himself' from the'se, he shall be ves'sel un'to honour, sanc'tified, and me'et for the master's u'se, and prepa'red un'to ev'ery good' work. 22 Fle'e also youth'ful lust's: but follow right'eousness, fa'ith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lo'rd out of a pu're hea'rt. 23 But fo'olish and unlearn'ed ques'tions avoi'd, kno'wing that they do gen'der stri'fes. 24 And the servant of the Lo'rd must not stri've; but be gen'tle un'to all men,' apt to te'ach, pa'tient; 25 In me'ękness instruc'ting those that oppo'se themselves; if Go'd peradven'ture will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that' the'y may recov'er themselves out of the sna're of the devil, who are ta'ken cap'tive by him at his will'.

CHAP. III. This' know also, that in the last' days per'ilous times shall com'e: 2 Fo'r men shall be lov'ers of their own selves, cov'etous, bo'asters, proud', blasphe'mers, disobe'dient to pa'rents, unthank'ful, unholy, 3 Without' nat'ural af'fec'tion, tru'ce-breakers, false accu'sers, incon'tinent, fie'rce, despi'sers of those that are good', 4 Traitors, head'y, high-mi'nded, lov'ers of pleas'ures more than lov'ers of Go'd; Having a fo'rm of godliness, but denying the pow'er thereof' from' such turn away. 6 Fo'r of this' sort are they which cre'ep in'to hou'ses, and le'ad cap'tive sil'ly wom'en la'den with sin's, led awa'y with di'vers lust's; 7 Ev'er lear'ning, and nev'er a'ble to come to the knowledge of the tru'th. 8 Now as Jan'nes and Jam'bres withstood' Mo'ṣes, so do the'se also resist' the truth: men of corrupt' mi'ndṣ, rep'robate concerning the faith. 9 But they shall proceed

no farther fo'r their folly shall be man'ifest un'to a'll men,' as the'irs a'lso was'. 10 But thou hast ful'ly kno'wn my doc'trine, man'ner of li'fe, purpose, fa'ith, long-suf'fering, char'ity, pa'tience, 11 Persecu'tions, afflictions, which ca'me un'to me at An'tioch, at Ico'nium, at Lys'tra; what persecu'tions I endu'red: but out' of them' all the Lo'rd deliv'ered me. 12 Yea', and all that will live god'ly in Chri'st Je'sus shall' suf'fer persecution. 13 But e'vil men and sedu'cers shall wax wors'e and wors'e, dece'iving, and be'ing deceived. 14 But contin'ue thou in the things which thou hast learn'ed and hast been assu'red of, kno'wing of w'hom thou hast learn'ed them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scrip'tures, which are a'ble to make thee wi'se un'to salva'tion, through faith which is in Chri'st Je'sus. 16 A'll scrip'ture is given by inspira'tion of Go'd, and 'is' prof'itable for doc'trine, for repro'of, for correc'tion, for instruc'tion in right'eousness; 17 That the man of Go'd may be perfect, thro'ughly furnished un'to all good' work's.

CHAP. IV. I charge thee' therefore befo're Go'd, and the Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st, who shall judg'e the quick' and the dead' at his appearing, and his kingdom; 2 Pre'ach the word'; be in'stant in' se'ason, out' of season; repro've, rebuke, exho'rt with a'll long-suf'fering and doc'trine. 3 Fo'r the time will com'e when they will not endu're sound' doc'trine; but after their own lust's shall they he'ap to themselves te'achers, hav'ing itch'ing e'ars; And they shall turn awa'y their' e'ars from the truth, and shall be turned un'to fa'bles. 5 But watch thou in a'll things, endu're afflictions, do the work' of an evan'gelist, make full' proof of thy ministry. 6 For I am now read'y to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand'. 7 I have fought a good' fight, I have fin'ished 'my' co'urse, I have kept the faith: 8 Henceforth there is laid up' for me a crown' of right'eousness, which the Lo'rd, the right'eous Judg'e, shall give me at that day; and not to me' o'nly, but un'to a'll them a'lso that lov'e his appearing. 9 Do thy diligence to com'e sho'rtly un'to me: 10 Fo'r De'mas hath forsa'ken me, having loved this pres'ent world, and is depa'rted un'to Thessaloni'ca; Cres'cens to Gala'tia, Ti'tus un'to Dalma'tia. 1 O'nly Lu'ke is with me. Take Ma'rk, and brin'g him with' thee: fo'r he is profitable to me for the min'istry. 12 And Tychicus

have I sent to Eph'esus. The clo'ak that I left at Tro'as with Ca'rpus, when thou com'est, bring with thee,' and the book's, but espec'ially the pa'rchments. 14 Al'exander the cop'persmith did me much evil; the Lo'rd rewa'rd him according to his work's: 15 Of whom be thou' ware also; for he hath grea'tly withstood our word's. 16 At my first' an'swer no' man stood' with me, but a'll 'men' forsook' me: 'I pray Go'd' that it may not' be la'id to their cha'rge. 17 Notwithstan'ding the Lo'rd stood' with me, and strengthened me; that by me' the pre'aching might be fully known, and that' a'll the Gen'tiles might he'ar and I was deliv'ered out of the mouth' of the li'on. 18 And the Lo'rd shall deliv'er me from ev'ery e'vil work, and will preser've 'me' un'to his heav'enly kin'gdom: to w'hom 'be' glo'ry for ev'er and ev'er. A'men'. 19 Salu'tę Pris'ca and Aquila, and the hous'ehold of Onesiph'orus. 20 Eras'tus abo'de at Cor'inth: but Troph'imus have I left at Mile'tum sick'. 21 Do thy diligence to com'e befo're win'ter. Eubu'lus gre'eteth thee, and Pu'dens, and Li'nus, and Claudia, and all the breth'ren. 22 The Lo'rd Jesus Chri'st 'be' with' thy spir'it. Gra'ce 'be' with' you. A'men'.

TITUS.

CHAPTER I.

1 PAUL, a servant of Go'd, and an apostle of Jesus Chri'st, according to the faith of Go'd's elect', and the acknowledging of the tru'th which is af'ter godliness; 2 In ho'pe of eternal life, which Go'd, that can'not li'e, prom'ised befo're the world began'; 3 But hath in du'e times man'ifested his word' through pre'aching, which is commit'ted un'to me', acco'rding to the command'ment of
