AMI a soldier of the cross,

follower of the Lamb,

And shall I fear to own his cause,
Or blush to speak his name?

2. Must I be carried to the skies,

On flowery beds of ease;
While others fought to win the prize,
And sail'd through bloody seas?

3. Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?

Is this dark world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?

4. Sure I must fight, if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord;
I'll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by thy word.

6. When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all thine armies shine,
In robes of victory, through the skies,
The glory shall be thine.

[Ps. 96, P. 1.

(Stanzas 4, 6 omitted.)
NING to the Lord, ye distant lands,
Ye tribes of every tongue;
His new discover'd grace demands
A new and nobler song.

2. Say to the nations, Jesus reigns,
God's own almighty Son;
His power the sinking world sustains,
And grace surrounds his throne.

3. Let heaven proclaim the joyful day,
Joy through the earth be seen:
Let cities shine in bright array,
And fields in cheerful green.

5. Behold He comes, He comes to bless
The nations as their God;
To show the world his righteousness,
And send his truth abroad.

[Ps. 39, P. 3.

(Stanza 6 omitted.)

YOD of my life, look gently down,
Behold the pains I feel;

But I am dumb before thy throne,
Nor dare dispute thy will.

2. Diseases are thy servants, Lord,
They come at thy command;
I'll not attempt a murmuring word
Against thy chastening hand.

3. Yet I may plead, with humble cries,
Remove thy sharp rebukes:
My strength consumes, my spirit dies,
Through thy repeated strokes.

4. Crush'd as a moth beneath thy hand,
We moulder to the dust;
Our feeble powers can ne'er withstand,
And all our beauty's lost.

Which pleased our eyes before?

When what we now deplore,

And bloom to fade no more.

[Ps. 73, P. 1. | 5. Dear Saviour, draw reluctant hearts;

(Stanza 1 in Music, 5, 6 omitted.)

2. Thy counsels, Lord, shall guide my
Thro' life's dark wilderness; [feet
Thine hand conduct me near thy seat,
To dwell before thy face.

3. Were I in heaven without my God,
"Twould be no joy to me;
And whilst this earth is my abode,
I long for none but thee.

4. What if the springs of life were broke, And flesh and heart should faint, God is my soul's eternal rock,

The strength of every saint.

To thee let sinners fly,

And take the bliss thy love imparts, And drink and never die.

3.

Perpetual blessings from above,
Encompass me around;

But O how few returns of love

Has my Creator found!

4. What have I done for Him who died To save my wretched soul? How are my follies multiplied,

Fast as my minutes roll!

5. Lord, with this guilty heart of mine, To thy dear cross I flee,

And to thy grace my soul resign,
To be renew'd by thee.

6. Sprinkled afresh with pardoning blood, I'll lay me down to rest,

As in the embraces of my God,

Or on my Saviour's breast.
