Many chief rulers believe.

J. 12. hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their A. D. 33. heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be con41 verted, and I should heal them. These things Is. 6. 1. said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake 42 of him. Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they 43 should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Jesus cried and said, "He that believeth on 1 Pet. 1. me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent 45" me. And he that seeth me seeth him that 46 sent me. I am come a light into the world, "that whosoever believeth on me should not 47" abide in darkness. And if any man hear my "words, and believe not, I judge him not: for "I came not to judge the world, but to save 48" the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiv"eth not my words, hath one that judgeth him : "the word that I have spoken, the same shall Deut. 18. 49" judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent "me, he gave me a commandment, 2b what I 'Deut. 18. 50" should say, and what I should speak. And I "know that his commandment is life everlast

112. Christ curseth the barren fig tree: purgeth

the temple.

AND on the morrow, when they were come M*. 11. from Bethany, he was hungry: and seeing a fig 12, 13 tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus an- 14 swered and said unto it, "No man eat fruit "of thee hereafter for ever." And his disciples heard it.

And they come to Jerusalem and Jesus 15 went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; and would 16 not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying 17 * Is. 56. 7. unto them, "Is it not written, a My house shall "be called 2 of all nations the house of prayer? Jer.7.11. but ye have made it a den of 3 thieves." And L. 19. he taught daily in the temple. But the chief 47 priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, and could not 48 find what they might do for all the people were very attentive to hear him. And when M. 11. even was come, he went out of the city.

Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou 'cursedst 22 is withered away. And Jesus answering saith 23 unto them, "Have faith in God. bandmen; and the marriage of the king's son.

AND they come again to Jerusalem: as he
27 taught the people in the temple, and preached
the gospel, there come to him the chief priests,
and the scribes, and the elders, and say unto
him, By what authority doest thou these things?
and who gave thee this authority to do these
29 things? And Jesus answered and said unto
them, “I will also ask of you one question, and
“answer me, and I will tell you by what autho-

was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.'

And they answered and said unto Jesus, We 33 cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority "I do these things."
