the day of my redemption! Let me continue in the practice of piety and holiness, and be a sincere and humble Christian unto my life's end.

Strengthen my resolutions, O blessed Lord, to embrace every opportunity of doing good; and make me diligent, honest, and persevering in all the duties of my station. Fix my thoughts, my hopes, and desires upon that eternal world to which I am daily and hourly hastening; and let not the dazzling pleasures and gay amusements of this short and eventful life, tempt me to the commission of any known sin, or in any way to err wilfully from thy commandments. "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips." Let me be guided and governed on all occasions by the meek and amiable example of Him, whose life was

spotless, whose love was unbounded, whose charity was universal, and who died for me, and all mankind. In all my troubles and sorrows, in all my afflictions and distresses, in the loss of friends, and my dearest and most valued connexions; in' adversity or prosperity; "in the hour of death, and in the day of judgment," let my firm and unshaken trust be stayed on this divine and exalted rock of my salvation! Grant that I may adhere to his precepts as my guide and consolation here on earth; and let the promise of eternal life, which he has given in his Gospel, be ever considered by me as the surest pledge of that glorious and unchangeable happiness, "which eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of men the things which thou, O God, hath prepared for them that love thee."

And be pleased, O Lord God, to instil into my mind the necessity, the sanctity, and importance of keeping the sabbath day holy. Let me not forget that thou hast blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it, for the means of grace" here," and for the hope of glory" hereafter. Endue me with such a deep sense of thy Majesty, that when I enter thy courts of prayer and praise, I may be filled with due reverence, and the devoutest humility. May no unworthy thoughts, no wandering or loose desires, no bad example, distract my attention, or disturb my devotion.

Finally," most gracious God, "I commend to thy fatherly goodness all those, who are any ways afflicted, or distressed in mind, body, or estate;" [especially my

self, thy humble and penitent servant]*, "that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this I beg for Jesus Christ his sake." AMEN.

of lords;-" the same yesterday, to-day, and for ever," I adore thee for all the privileges I possess in this life, and the pleasing hope of reaping those eternal joys which thou hast promised to them that unfeignedly love thee, and keep thy commandments.

I anticipate with feelings of the greatest delight, the peaceable enjoyment of the approaching sabbath day. I hail it as the harbinger of tranquillity, and the calm companion of my religious meditations. I long to throw aside the cares of this world for the contemplation of things immortal and divine. Ah! that no melancholy thoughts, no vehemence of temper, no unruly passions, no perplexing circumstances, no sad disasters, ill health, or engagements of any kind, may disappoint the pleasures and improvements of that sacred day. My soul shall
