When Herod the King had heard thefe Anno. things he was troubled, and all Ferufa- Etat. 1. lem with him, and when he had gathered all the chief Priefts and Scribes of the people together, he demanded of 5. them where Chrift fhould be born. And they faid unto him in Bethlehem of Fu dea for thus it is written by the Pro6. phet [Micah V. 2.] And thou Bethlehem in the land of Fuda, art not the leaft ámong the Princes of Fuda; for out of thee fhall come a Governour that Shall rule my people Ifrael.


Then Herod when he had privily call'd the wife men, enquired of them diligently what time the ftar appear'd. 8. And he fent them to Bethlehem, and faid, Go and fearch diligently for the young child, and when ye have found bim bring me word again, that I may 9. come and worship him alfo. When they had heard the King, they departed, and lo, the ftar which they faw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood 10. over where the young child was. When they faw the ftar they rejoiced with ex11. ceeding great joy. And when they were come into the houfe, they faw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treafures, they prefented unto him gifts; gold and frank12. incenfe, and myrrh. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

Lord, now letteft thou thy fervant
depart in peace according to thy word.

Jofeph's flight with Christ into Egypt.


ND when the [wife men] were departed, behold the Angel of the Lord appeareth to Jofeph in a dream, faying, Arife, and take the young child and bis mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will feek the young child to de14.ftroy him. When he arofe, he took the young child and his mother by night,



and departed into Egypt; and was there Egypt. Etat. 2. until the death of Herod: that it might 15. Mat. ii, be fulfilled which was fpoken of the Lord by the Prophet [Hofea xi. 1.] faying, out of Egypt have I called my

which was spoken by Jeremy the Prophet,
[xxxi. 15.] faying, In Rama was there a 18.
voice beard, lamentation, and weeping,
and great mourning, Rachel weeping for
ber children and would not be comfort-
ed because they are not.



Return of Jofeph from Egypt.


UT when Herod was dead, behold, 19. an Angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Jofeph in Egypt, faying, Arife, 20. and take the young child and his mother and go into the Land of Ifrael, for they are dead which fought the young child's life. And he arofe, and took the young 21. child
