Beelzebub, the prince of devils. He having for that purpose, entered into the serpent, plucked fruit from the forbidden fruit-tree in the garden of Eden, and in all hatred against the Holy Ghost, and in all knowledge, with wicked intention aforesaid tempted Eve first to eat of the forbidden fruit, and to hate, dishonour, and disobey, the Holy Ghost, and his truth; and behold, as at first, Eve resisted him, and rejected his seductions, quoting God's truth, saying, "God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die," Gen. iii. 3. The malicious Beelzebub replied, "Ye shall not surely die; for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened; and ye shall be as gods." That saying of Beelzebub was in substance saying, The Holy Ghost is a liar, a deceiver; and thus whilst he committed the sin against the Holy Ghost Eve took of the fruit, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat," Gen. iii. 6. Thus both sinned, and broke the law of truth, which was the common sin of all the human race, and which, in opposition to Beelzebub's lie, brought death; as the Holy One said, "Thou shalt surely die :" dying thou shalt die. By one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; so death passed upon all, for that all have sinned," Now observe, we pray you, that whilst Adam and Eve, God's two first elect of the human race, were in their fallen state, preserved in Jesus Christ from selfdestruction, and from being devoured by devils, to be presently called and renewed by the Holy Ghost, as his heirs; that the liar, blasphemer, and murderer Beelzebub, received the Holy Ghost's curse, and all plagues were added unto him, so that of all the devils he was, is, and shall be everlastingly supreme in torments. See Gen. iii. 14; Rev. xxii. 18.

The next sinful creature, who in all hatred and lies against the Holy

Ghost, his law, testimony, and ordinances, and against all his loving, honouring, obedient people, was Cain. See his awful progress in sin, until he committed the sin against the Holy Ghost, Gen. iv. 3. His progress was first by insulting the Holy Ghost, as he did the Father, and Christ our God, by his presenting. in Beelzebub's workings, with his pretending desires, the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord, and not a lamb, the type of Christ, as Adam and his household offered daily, by and in the Holy Ghost, in his blessing and gifts of grace, faith, hope, love, and filial obedience, unto the Father, in and through Christ, of which the lamb was a type; and the Father assured them, that he had respect unto them and to their offering. See Gen. iii. 15, 21; iv. 4; Heb. xi. 4.

But unto Cain and his God-insulting offering, the Father had not respect, and Cain was very wroth, and in hatred to the Holy Ghost, who led Abel with his parents to the Father, in and through the Lamb Christ, and who blessed them in the sight of angels, good and bad. Cain after murdering his righteous brother Abel, resisting the Holy Ghost, speaking lies against him, and to him, which was public blasphemy, and so Cain committed the sin against the Holy Ghost. See Gen. iv. 9. And Cain knew, by feeling the curse of the Holy One, that fell upon and entered into him, with the plagues that were added, that he had committed that never to be pardoned sin. Saying in awful malice, self-pity, and hatred to the Holy One, and in anguish of black despair, "My punishment is greater than I can bear."

Now let the citizens of Zion, especially the beloved Onesimus, be assured, that from Cain, to Korah and others, who had clear knowledge that the Holy Ghost, with the Father and Christ, is one God, the Godhead, unto the persons mentioned in the last

chapter of the Old Testament, unto those in the New Testament, whom John Baptist by the Holy Ghost declared to be a generation of vipers, Matt. iii. 7, unto Judas, Ananias, and Sapphira his wife, and all others, unto the last chapter of Revelations, who as aforesaid, publicly, in clear knowledge, lied unto and against the Holy Ghost, in hatred to him and his truth, and in love to sin, being filled by the devil, committed the sin against the Holy Ghost. And all these persons, in life and death, had evident tokens of perdition, Phil. i. 28, even as Cain had, and as declared, Rev. xxii. 15-18, and so unto persons in Paul and John's days, and after their death, in the first falling away or apostacy from God-given protestantism, unto Julian, the noted apostate, foretold by the Holy Ghost, and unto the idolatrous, lying, blaspheming man of sin, the son of perdition, the pontiff of Rome, A. D. 666. unto other Romish pontiffs or popes, who in hatred to the Holy Ghost. filled by the devil, for filthy lucre's sake, and for the wicked, murderous intention of casting down the law and testimony of the Holy Ghost, destroyed protestant kings, queens, and governments, and set up open idolatry, sent Jesuits into all nations, as Cardinal Wolsey and Cardinal Beaufort were sent into this God-blessed protestant nation, Great Britain; who by public lies unto and against the Holy Ghost, by adding unto and taking from his law and testimony, Rev. xxii. 18, committed the sin against the Holy Ghost, as well as being the devil's instruments of torturing and murdering the Holy Ghost's heirs, faithful protestants, even as Cain murdered Abel. Then the Holy One's curse fell upon and entered them, as Cain of old, and all God's vindictive plagues were added unto them, and they died in black despair as did the popish bishop Bonner and others in queen Mary's reign, who had committed the sin against the Holy Ghost, as history

makes manifest, and so enduring the curse and plague in life, and dying, they, as foretold by the Holy One,

were full of darkness, and they gnawed their tongues for pain, and blasphemed the God of heaven," Rev. xvi. 10, 11. Now as all the Scriptures prove, that instead of the sin against the Holy Ghost decreasing, the same will increase, until the end of the battle of that great day of God Almighty, Rev. xvi. 14; and abound again exceedingly in the last apostacy, before the coming of our Lord to the judgment of the great day, as soon as the devils are let out for a little season. Rev. xx. 713. We are astonished, therefore, that the beloved Onesimus should so err in spirit, as to declare and publish from the walls of Zion, that the sin against the Holy Ghost cannot be committed now. Indeed we are exceedingly grieved at your assertion, beloved Onesimus, in these days of manifest apostacy and public lying, issued against the Holy Ghost, in this nation, by persons who had professed Bible protestantism, in clear know. ledge that the Holy Ghost, with the Father and Christ, is one God, and that his law and testimony, order and ordinances, is the only truth upon earth. And which persons, in all their knowledge, like Judas, for money, and honour amongst Popish and Mahometan sovereigns, princes and powers, being filled by the wicked one, are openly apostates, and have lied unto and against the Holy Ghost, declaring it is well pleasing unto him, that in daily worshipping the Father, all peoples should approach unto him through the person, merit, and mediation of the Virgin Mary, before Christ. Which is the blaspheming against the Holy Ghost with a wit ness, Gen. iv. to Rev, xxii. 18. Thus we find the present Pontiff of Rome is going in the way of Cain, with most of his kings, princes, powers; and priesthood, in Rome, and in all nations, as they have now uni

versal liberty under certain restraints. Thus the sin against the Holy Ghost increaseth in all nations. The proof is, that in their blasphemy against the Holy Ghost, they have driven the blessed missionaries, with government officers, out of Tahiti; cursing the sovereign of that nation, putting her under tortures, in captivity. They have also killed, as Cain of old killed Abel, the Holy Ghost's heirs ; "Woe unto them, for they have gone in the way of Cain." This woe by the will of the Holy Ghost, is denounced upon those popish blasphemies against the Holy Ghost, and murderers of his heirs even in the metropolis of Great Britain generally, especially at Exeter Hall. Whilst you, the beloved Onesimus, "erring in spirit" publicly declare, the sin against the Holy Ghost cannot be committed now. This is a deadly article of yours! So that myself, with all God-sent ministers, missionaries, pastors, and watchmen, in Great Britain and all nations, who are not beguiled from stedfastness in the Holy Ghost's law and testimony, are, and will be, opposed to you respectiug that deadly article; therefore we pray you to cease from publishing the same, for doing it, you resist undesignedly, we suppose undesignedly, the Holy Ghost, and his truth, and his witnesses upon earth, with us; and thereby strength en the cause and hands of idolaters, and blasphemers, all who loveth and maketh a lie. May God render this scripture article, and watchman's sound from Zion's walls, a means of checking you and others in your course that is evil, publishing that the sin against the Holy Ghost can not be committed now, Amen.

Now as the sin against the Holy Ghost is so awful, and the curse with plagues added unto the persons who commit it, so dreadful, and soul appalling; I shall proceed, as agreed, to publish the fact, as a most essential point in divinity, that not one

of God's elect ever did, or ever can,
commit that sin. Because the Holy
Ghost himself is the God of the elect,
whose heirs we are all, and he is our
Keeper. Whilst the Father in God,
who is our Father, and we his elect
sons and daughters, predestinated to
eternal life, immortality, and endless
glory, cover us under his shadow.
Whilst the Son in God, Jesus Christ,
our eternal, everlasting Husband and
Redeemer, as we are sinful creatures
in a fallen helpless state, in all the
the glories of his person, meritorious
righteousness, and the one Holy Me-
diator between the Father and us,
ever intercediing for us, the same as
he did for Adam and Eve, and all the
elect before his incarnation, as since
in all the blessings of being the pro-
pitiation for our sins, and in all the
merit of his atoning, cleansing, heal-
ing, pardon-procuring blood, which
is called by the Father and Holy
Ghost "The blood of the covenant,'
Zech. ix. 11, is our salvation and
all; although we have sin indwelling,
and infirmity, and temptations of
devils, and go astray like lost sheep,
we are preserved and saved by grace.
And in order to make known the
complete preservation and salvation
of the whole election, Jesus Christ
our Saviour, who with the Father
and Holy Ghost is one God, sounds
forth his righteous, holy voice through
heaven and earth respecting us, the
elect, his bride, and purchased pos-
sessions, saying, "They shall never
perish, neither shall any pluck them
out of my hand," John x. 28.
"Glory and eternal laud,

Be to our eternal God."

Fear not, therefore, ye furnace tried, trembling elect of God, for not one of you can possibly commit the sin against the Holy Ghost; or ever be left to commit wilful or presumptuous sins; for the glorious Three One, in his everlasting relational love to all his election as One, is our Keeper.

(The conclusion, on Wilful Sins, will be published in our next number.)

POETRY.

THE RIGHT HAND OF THE LORD DOETH VALIANTLY.

Psalm cxviii. 16; xciv. 14; lxxvii. 10; lxxiv. 11, 12; Ix. 5; Mark vii. 37.

How sweet to behold the right hand of the Lord,

And all his kind dealings review and record; To feel that his faithfulness still doth extend Unto a poor worm that now needeth a friend. Where'er Ebenezers were raised in times past,

The christian can look in every fresh blast; Though rough winds blow round him, and

threaten to sweep,

The whole of his comforts again in the deep.

E'en then he can safely look up and rejoice, And sweetly remember that all powerful voice,

Which now says, Fear not, I am with thee still,

And never will leave thee, but will with thee dwell.

That Saviour who died on the cross to atone, For all his dear children still hears every groan ;

And though for a season we grope in the dark,

To each praying soul he will prove a bless'd ark.

He'll surely attend to their cry, and will

proved,

And when that each trial I bring to an end, Thy heart shall acknowledge, I have been thy friend;

A friend watching o'er thee in every dark hour,

A friend ever near to restrain Satan's power.

A friend to support that would not let thee sink,

When thou to destruction wert close on the brink;

I withdrew there to shew thee thou 'rt helpless and poor,

And can't come without me, behold, mercy's door.

This door I have opened, I now call you in To partake of the bounties I've stored up within ;

And while I invite you I give you the power To come and be helped in my chosen hour.

I freely bestow upon all whom I call, Grace, mercy and peace to redeem them from thrall."

Then poor trembling soul, having ofttimes before

Proved the truth of Christ's words, now believe him once more.

Although now you're cast down, yet lift up your head,

In goodness supreme he will yet safely lead; He'll guide through the desert, his hand will still feed,

And grant every blessing he sees that you need. Then arise from the dust, and his praises now sing,

Secure by hope's anchor to Jesus still cling; His Spirit divine shall yet shew thee his love, And make you his faithfulness sweetly to

prove.

Though thy way may be dark, he will shew thee the light.

And make thee to own all his dealings are right;

And though almost ready to sink in despair, He'll help thee to cast upon Jesus thy care.

And Jesus will take it, and make thee to know

That to all who can trust him his favour he'll shew;

He'll help thee through life, whate'er be thy straits,

And all thy base dross must from thee be He'll support and give comfort e'en down to

death's gates.

[blocks in formation]

LORD, I esteem thy precious love,

And prize it more than richest wine; There is no cordial can remove

My fainting, like that blood of thine.

Wine spills the man that drinks too much,
And greatly doth his health impair;
But those that drink the most of love,

The temperatest persons are.

The wine is not the poor man's drink,
But here's a cellar always free.
The rich may come, and poorest saint
May drink his fill, as well as he.

There was no wine at Cana's feast,

Was once complained by them above; But such a word shall ne'er be said,

At Sion's feast there is no love.

My soul, pierce thou this pipe of love, Fill all thy flaggons to the brim ; Divine excess is soberness,

And holy drunkenness no sin.

The wine that with us best agrees, And curious palates most approve,

Is not without unpleasing lees;

But oh, there is no dregs in love.

Love 's all that can be spoke or thought, 'T is all earth hath, or heaven above;

Epitomize a Deity,

The total sum of all is love.

II.

"Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth."-CHAP. I. 2.

Let those enamouring lips of thine,
With love-begetting love;

Steal kisses on these lips of mine,
That I may taste and prove,
What those immense treasures of love,
Those seas and oceans be:
Let sacred love flow from above,
In nectar streams to me.

And let me kiss those kisses, which

Can raise my heart on high; And love that love, that can enrich And crown my poverty: But will renowned Jesus deign

To kiss so vile a sinner; And be of undeserved love

The Author and Beginner?

Can filthy lips, and so unclean,
Expect a prince's kiss?
Do kings embrace a love so mean.
Was ever love like this?

He that could kiss the bitter cross,
And kiss the burning wrath,
And kiss the breath of direful death,
A kiss for sinners hath!

III.

"The upright love thee."-CHAP. I. 4. THOU art beloved, and best approved, Of all that are upright, Whose hearts are sound, sincerely bound; Thou art their chief delight. Whose very heart and souly part,

Dwells with the truth; and when
Men's hearts are truly true to thee,
As thou art true to them.

Though sinners scorn, and all forlorn,
In their ungodly sight;
Wretches they are, that would not care
To love thee, if they might.

The hypocrite will speak thee fair,
But hath no love within;

Kiss and betray, like Judas they,
Oh, Lord, it is their sin.

My Lord, I love thee truly, though
I love not as I should;

I love thee, yet I love thee not,
At least not as I would.

I would I could; but since 't is so,
Worms can but act as worms;

Accept a real wish it were,

A spark till fire burns.
