I diflinguifli, once for all, and requell the reader carefully to remember it, between the perform of our adverfaries, and the wife which they plead. Towards the farmer I have all the fentiments of love and com pallion, which are due to my erring fellow mortal I admire the parts, the learning, and the gifts, uhich God has bellowed on fome of them. And though they do manifeli violence to the Scripture, I nould not accufe them of fpeahing contrary to their cxvn light; inor judge them unworthy of toleration in a Protellant (late - As to their my}, I ought not to be cenfured, if I endeavour to reprefent it in its own colours - in ail that deformity which necellinily attends an hypothelis, that is contrary' to Divine Revelation and the fpirit of true religion. This is my duty, and one end of my minillry. I ought not to omit any thing, which appears to be a lawful and propable mean of convincing then.
