"This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent." John xvii.. 3. See also 1 Tim. v. 21. Heb. xii. 22. 1 Tim. ii. 5.

Secondly, Jesus Christ is not, and cannot be the Most High God, because he is he Son of God.

Thirdly, That our Saviour Jesus Christ is not the Most High God, or God in the proper and most sublime sense of that word, is evident, because, he always professed to have no will of his own ; but to be ever entirely guided and governed by the will of his heavenly Father. "For I came down from heaven, (received a divine commission,) not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." John vi. 38. See also Matt. xxvi. 39. .

Fourthly, Jesus Christ cannot be the Most High God, because he is said to be sent by God. "He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me." John xii. 44. See also Matt. x. 40, John xvii. 8, 21, 23, 25.

Fifthly, Jesus Christ is not the Most High God, because he denies himself to be the author of his miraculous works,

but refers them to the Father or the Holy Spirit of God. "I can of mine own self do nothing." John v. 30. "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." John xiv. 10. See also John v. 19-31; Matt. xii. 27; Luke ii. 20; Acts ii. 22; Acts x. 38.

Sixthly, Jesus Christ is inferior to God, and dependent upon him, because he is said to receive commands from the Father, and to give an unreserved obedience to the commands. "As the Father gave me commandment, even so I do." John xiv. 31. "If ye keep my commandments ye shall abide in my love, as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." John xv. 10. See also John xii. 49, 50.

Seventhly, Our Saviour Jesus Christ is not the Most High God, because he declares that he was not the author of his own doctrine. "My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me." John vii. 16. "The

word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. John xiv. 24. See also John viii. 28, iii. 34.

Eighthly, Jesus Christ is not God, but a subordinate, dependent being, because

he prays to the Father.

"He went out

into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God." Luke vi. 12. See also Luke ix. 18, xxii. 41 to 44, Matt. xxvi. 38, 39, Mark xiv. 33 to 36, Luke xxiii. 34 and 46.

Ninthly, Jesus Christ is a being different and distinct from God, because he is called the image of God. "Who is the image of the invisible God." Col. i. 14. See also 2 Cor. iv. 4. It would surely be absurd to call any one his own image. Tenthly, Jesus Christ is not the eternal or self-existent Deity, because he is styled the first-born of every creature. Col. i. 15.

Eleventhly, Jesus Christ must be a dependent, inferior being, because he is said in scripture to have been tempted, and "God cannot be tempted of evil." See Matt. iv. 1, Mark i. 12, Luke iv. 1.

Twelfthly, Jesus Christ our Saviour could not have been God if he was a priest. Consider the apostle and highpriest of our profession, Christ Jesus, who was faithful unto him that appointed him." Heb. iii. 1, 2. The office of a priest is to minister to God.

Thirteenthly, Jesus Christ could not

have been God, when he uttered the following expression, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me." Matt. xxvii. 46.

Fourteenthly, Jesus Christ must be dependent upon, and inferior to God, because he declares that he had not the disposal of the highest places in his own kingdom. Matt. xx. 23.

Fifteenthly, Jesus Christ is not the Most High God, because he is said in scripture himself to have a God, a head, or superior, and to be the possession or property of God. "I ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." John "The head of Christ is God."

xx. 17.

Sixteenthly, Jesus Christ cannot be the true God, because it is asserted that when he hath put all enemies under his feet, he shall himself "be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all." 1 Cor. xv. 28.

Seventeenthly, Jesus Christ is inferior to God, because it is most emphatically affirmed in scripture, that God the Father raised him from the dead. "This Jesus hath God raised up." Acts ii. 32. See

also Acts ii. 24, iii. 26, xiii. 32, 33, 34. Gal. i. 1.

Eighteenthly, Jesus Christ expressly denies that he was God, when he exclaims, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is God. Matt. xix. 17.

Nineteenthly, Jesus Christ is not the Most High God, because he asserts in positive terms, that there is one greater than himself. 'My Father is greater than I."

John xiv. 28.

Lastly, Jesus Christ is not the Most High God, because there are some things of which he declares his ignorance. "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, or none, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." Matt. xxiv. 36. See also Mark xiii. 32.

In reply to all these passages will it be said, that they do not mean the whole of Christ, but only one half of his nature? I ask for proof. Proof I must have. Shew me the scripture which declares it. Or give me, from reason if you will, an absolute demonstration of its necessity. I cannot take it for granted. I dare not believe it upon your bare assertion.
