persons entering on the state of probation which was before us. Those, who gave no heed to the invitations to devote themselves to the service of God, would not, many of them, I believe, advise you to follow in their course. They would, I hope, wish better for you than they chose for themselves. They would say, Believe not Satan, and his lies. He deceived us: learn wisdom from our folly.' Those who did resolve, and endeavoured to follow up the resolution, to give up their hearts to God, would tell you, that they never once repented of that resolution;-only, they would earnestly exhort you to be more decided and persevering, more prayerful and watchful, than they have been. They would urge you to improve many opportunities which they have let slip, never again to be recovered, of making progress in divine knowledge, and other qualifications, by which you might glorify God in your generation. They would advise you, to stand forth openly and unequivocally on the Lord's side-to come out, and be separate from the spirit and practices of those who know not Godto make it manifest, whose you would be; and whom you desire, and are determined to serve. Oh! if a number of young people, or even a few, did this, how much might the tone of feeling and acting be raised in their immediate circle and neighbourhood! JESUS SAID: THOU SHALT DO NO MURDER; THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY; THOU SHALT NOT STEAL; THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS; HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER; AND, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF. THE YOUNG MAN SAITH UNTO HIM, ALL THESE THINGS HAVE I KEPT FROM MY YOUTH UP: WHAT LACK I YET? JESUS SAID UNTO HIM, IF THOU WILT BE PERFECT, GO AND SELL THAT THOU HAST, AND GIVE TO THE POOR, AND THOU SHALT HAVE TREASURE IN HEAVEN: AND COME AND FOLLOW ME. BUT WHEN THE YOUNG MAN HEARD THAT SAYING, HE WENT AWAY SORROWFUL: FOR HE HAD GREAT POSSESSIONS.
